Good places to visit overnight near Brussels

We're two young guys in our 20's and am looking for places to visit overnight near Brussels. It doesn't need to have a night life.

I agree that Bruges and Ghent are great places to visit and stay if you have some time to explore. They are really lovely towns.

A bit closer to Brussels is Leuven which is also a really nice town to visit. It has a nice square and some really great restaurants.

If you're looking to be in Brussels, perhaps not in the heart of nightlife, there are some Airbnb apartments not far from Moeder Lambic which is a great place to try the local Belgian beers.  It's also very much within walking distance of the Grand Place and main sights of the city.

If you don't want to be in Brussels itself, Ghent is a great city to visit and stay in which should be quite a bit more affordable...

If you're looking for other locations that offer some great sightseeing, you can visit to Bruges and Ypres on the northwest of the country and Liege more to the east.

Hi Josh, if you want to feel another ambiance than Brussels downtown at night, I suggest to try Leuven city center (20 km away). The place is full of impressive historical buildings, quite nicely illuminated at night. Since Leuven is home to thousands of university students, you'll find plenty of small shops, pubs, cheap restaurants, concerts and activities to enjoy. Lots of lovely spots you can stroll around and chat with people (everyone speaks English). Be sure to taste a locally brewed beer ;-)

If you like period atmosphere, the Groot Begijnhof is a wonderful place to wander around (see more info).

The place is easy to reach from Brussels, especially by train. If you come with a car, leave it in a parking outside of the city centre, because the streets are mostly pedestrian.

Oh you are spoiled for choice!

As mentioned above Bruges is a beautiful and charming historical option. But then Belgium's two other big cities also offer much history and excellent entertainment and lively a athmosphere: I personally really like Antwerp, and Ghent is a culture-filled city.

Moreover, two of Europe's great capitals are a quick train ride away from Brussels: Amsterdam in the Netherlands and London (via Eurostar) will never disappoint.

For smaller picturesque options try TournaiNamurVeurne and Damme.  And of course, you can make a quick trip to Luxembourg :)

Enjoy!
