Good places for hiking / outdoor activities?

Had been really hoping to get up to the tatra region for a day trip but it's further away than I thought.

We're only in Bratislava for 4 nights so looking for a closer option. Any suggestions?

My favorite single day hike in Malé Karpaty mountain range is in a geographical subregion called Plavecky Kras. See this map:

Leave your car in Plavecké Podhradie opposite the pub and follow the yellow trail mark to Vápenná. From there follow the red one to Amonova luka. Then the blue one to Plavecky hrad (a nice ruin of a medieval castle) and down to Plavecke podhradie. You'll come back to your car and can have a cold beer in the local pub. Much recommended.

I was in Bratislava for just 2 days. My tour guide recommended the following places for hiking/biking/outdoor activities for my next trip there:

1. The Danube Bike Path (EuroVelo 6) - from Bratislava to Vienna but you don't have to go all the way to Vienna.

2. Eurovelo 13 bicycle path (The Iron Curtain Trail)

3. Hike in the Devinska Kobyla National Reserve at the foothills of the Little Carpathian Mountains offering views and pre-historic fossils. In winter, this is the place for skiing and sledding.

4. Bike from Bratislava to Devin Castle and probably cross the border into Austria (not too far away from the castle).

  3. Devin Castle (attraction)

If you want to experience nature and stay close to Bratislava then definitely try the biking routes in nearby hills. Search for mounting bike rental...

If you are looking for a half day trip close to Bratislava, nice option is  Pajštún castle (actually more ruin). Here you can find more about this trip

If you prefer real hiking in Tatra style, there is very nice closer option. Unfortunately you still will need at least a car and either a guide or good orientation skill for this.

Veľký Rozsutec

It is something more than 2 hours from Bratislava by car. The trip starts at Štefanová. I found some article in english also about this hike. (I would recomend loop from Stefanova)

Best wishes

We were in Bratislava for a few days and didn't explore much of the countryside.  However, Hrad Devín is a short boat ride up the Danube so it makes for a pleasant afternoon.  Don't expect much other than an historic ruin with pleasant views of the countryside.  It's a bit of a hike up to it, actually a little more than we were expecting.
