Justin from South Lake Tahoe asked

Labor Day weekend in Boston- what to do outdoors?

I'm going to Boston over Labor Day weekend with a few friends. We'd like to spend our time outside as much as possible, so we're looking for recommendations for the best rooftop bars, outdoor concert venues or activities. Any suggestions are appreciated!

There is so much to do, I'm not sure where to start. For outdoor activities, there is always The Freedom Trail and the Boston Common with its swan boat rides. Sports wise, there is Fenway Park, Boston Garden, and Gillette Stadium. Harvard Square has some nice boutiques, cafes, and bars. Copley Square and the Prudential Center Tower area might also be good. Research before going to be sure.

And if you have time, hop on the red line and cross the Charles River, heading into Cambridge. Harvard Square is loads of fun (albeit probably pretty crazy with students returning).

Good time to visit!! The best place for outdoor concerts is the Bank of America pavilion (or Blue Hills Bank Pavilion).  It is located in the Seaport District of the city.  I would check the calendar and if there's anything decent just go!   As far as rooftop bars, the Seaport District is packed with them.  For a pub/more affordable spot check out The Whiskey Priest or the Atlantic Beer Garden (next door to each other).  For a little bit more high end, Legal Seafood Harborside Line is easily the coolest rooftop bar/restaurant in the city.  There is also Jerry Remy's Sports Bar (sports bar), Temazcal Tequila Cantina (Mexican food/tequila), Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse (steakhouse), and seafood places (Barking Crab, The Daily Catch, Liberty Wharf).

You will find outdoor patios and bars all over the city.  My favorites across the different neighborhoods are: Ristorante Fiore in the North End, Pier 6 Boston Waterfront in Charlestown, The Rattlesnake Roof Deck or Tico in Back Bay.  Also, the Boston Harbor Hotel has nightly music during the summer.

Also, pack a cooler and bring a towel and post up along the Charles River The Esplanade or take a ferry out to the Boston Harbor Islands National Park and spend the day tossing the frisbee and hanging in the sun.

Finally-- Fenway Park.  No better outdoor venue than that.

Have a blast!

Seaport is a great place to grab drinks, and has a lot of outdoor and rooftop patios. I personally love Atlantic Beer Garden and The Whiskey Priest. There are also a lot of great rooftop bars in fenway, including Jerry Remy's. Ff you are looking for other outdoor activities, the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area are awesome to visit and easy to get to on the ferry system, and the ferry's serve beer :-) Enjoy!
