My husband and I are wine lovers, so we've decided that Bordeaux is going to be one of the destinations that we hit during our spring European vacation. I trust that most all of the wine will be amazing, but are there any wineries that are exceptionally beautiful?
We'd love to go on some tours, but we'd also just like to know the names of some places where we can just sit and have a glass and enjoy the beautiful French countryside. All suggestions are welcome!
Travelling down to Bordeaux, you might wish to stop in the Loire Valley, where we could recommend quite a few good addresses too, less well known than Bordeaux, but excellent at affordable prices. In Bordeaux, you might consider renting a luxury cottage at Chateau Biac, as they not only produce wine but organise excellent tastings at other wineries.
Otherwise, the village of Saint-Emilion itself has a couple of elegant hotels and all the tastings and up market wineries you could dream of.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is another favourite of mine, as well as Gigondas. Stay near Orange at the Château de Rochegude

I have not actually been there yet, but several of my Bordeaux junkie friends swear by Chateauneuf-du-Pape, so I'd add that if it works with your itinerary.
