Shawn from Presidio asked

First-come, first-serve camping sites in Big Sur?

Looking to book a last minute, Big Sur camping trip for mid-week. Does anyone have any experience in navigating the first come, first serve campsite system? Specifically, are your chances pretty high of landing a spot mid-week? Looking at more popular spots - Pfeiffer Big Sur, Kirk Creek, Andrew Molera State Park, etc.

Honestly, this is going to be really tough. Especially in the locations you want. Normally, these places book a year in advance (or more). Your best bet is to stalk the sites, make a friend and ask them when they are leaving so that you'll be sure to grab a spot as soon as they take off. I've done it a few times before and gotten pretty lucky. Good luck.

Actually got pretty lucky here as well - ended up driving a bit farther south and got a great site at Plaskett Creek. It was right next to Sand Dollar beach. Would recommend in the future - although, place is over run by poison ivy.
