Unusual places to visit in Berlin?

Do you have suggestions on unusual museums or places to visit in Berlin, out of the typical touristic itineraries?

Hi, the last time I went to Berlin (one year ago) my best friend took me to the Berlin Wall Memorial at Bernauer Strasse. If you're interested in going back to the time of the Cold War, skip the East Side Gallery and the Checkpoint Charlie and go walking along Bernauer (website). Near Bernauer Strasse is also Prenzlauer Berg (beautiful historic buildings, delicious restaurants, night-life & shopping). One year ago I also visited the Soviet War Memorial Treptow at Treptower Park and had a pleasant walk along the river.

If you like David Bowie and his music you might appreciate this :-) and have a stroll in Schöneberg. Next time I'll go to Grunewald, mainly known for its beautiful forest and cemetery with Nico's grave.

Enjoy!

THAT is the street area where I lived when in Berlin. I was 5 mins away from the remnants of the wall and the open air museum! ;)

This is a good one if you are interested in

contemporary ART (and architecture):

Sammlung Boros  / The bunker
Reinhardtstrasse 20

you have to make a reservation ahead.

Allso worth going is the Helmut Newton Foundation

(photographs ) Jebensstraße 2 (near the Zoo)

and for the jazz:

international A-Trane (seit 1992)
Bleibtreustraße 1 / Ecke Pestalozzistraße

You can visit Markthalle Neun in kreuzberg on Thursdays, to get a taste of Berlin through its street food!

If you can, highly recommend Spreepark Berlin however it's not entirely legit...!!

Read more about it (and other off-beat Berlin ideas) on our blog here - http://www.everthoughtoftrying.com/berlin-culture/

It's a short walk from Treptower Park. That's how we did it. But you can just get a metro to Planterwald. But if you go via treptower park, that's an amazing monument to see too
