Andrea from Santa Monica asked

East or West Berlin Inexpensive Trendy Hotel?

I have 3 nights to stay in Berlin on my own before I have to be there for a work event. I will have my laptop and stuff with me so don't want to do a hostel, but want an inexpensive fun hotel experience.

It will be in February, so it will be cold so terraces, etc don't matter. I have narrowed my hotel options to the below. If I had one more night, I'd just do 2 nights in each & check out both sides, but since I don't, I don't really want to switch hotels three times...does anyone have any real intel or opinions on either hotel?

The Kudamm is off of the big shopping street in a quieter / more luxury area (supposedly) and the Michelberger is in East Berlin which is (supposedly) more hip and young and fun...

East Berlin:

Michelberger Hotel FOR SURE! It's a nice hotel to hang out in and in a fun area full of galleries and trendy spots. Head to Burgermeister when you go :)

Arround Savignyplatz (Berlin)  is a great location its a burgeoisie, stable area

with a twist, you have everything nearby lots of realy good restaurants

of every genre, cafes, design shops, galleries etc. some of the sidestreets

(parts Fasanen strasse etc) has a feel of Paris. Its a short walking distance

from Zoo station (the Tegel airport buss X9 ) with Bikini Berlin shopping

mall etc, and you have S-Bahn station Savigny a stone throw away.

West arround Bier's Kudamm 195  has become moore and moore in fashion and

appealing again.  I used to stay in East but the last 3 times in Savigny

Plz. cant go wrong with this choise, you still have a easy acess to

so-called ¨trendy¨ areas: Neukölln,Warschauer Straße  area, Kreuzberg...

Hotells arround Savigny:

there is quite a lot of affordable small hotels arraoun the area:

for ex. Hotel Sir F.K. Savigny, Berlin a nice small and affordable boutique hotell.

We stayed at H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz and it was great, very clean, free breakfast every morning and right in Alexanderplatz on the main drag that leads to Museum Island all the way down to Brandenburger Tor and Tiergarten -- pretty sure we got it for somewhere around $100/night for 2 people.
