Katie from Los Angeles asked

Best free things to do in Belfast?

I'm going to be in Belfast next month and will be on a pretty tight budget. I'm looking for the best free and inexpensive things to check out! I love the outdoors, art, museums, you name it. Thanks!

The Ulster Museum in the Botanic Park is free and definitely worth a visit for a few hours. The park itself is also pleasant for a walk. You can walk around the grounds of Queens Square, the main university in Belfast, while you're in this area, which is also free.

To get a panoramic view of the city, go to the Dome at the top of the shopping centre ''Victoria Square''. While you're around here, you can visit the Belfast City Hall and have some lunch in the grounds by the big TV screen.

Visit St George's Market in the city centre on a Saturday or Sunday - look at the artisan stalls, taste some yummy foods, get a coffee and listen to the band playing.

Apart from paying for transport, hiking up to the top of Cave Hill behind Belfast Castle is worth the effort (takes around 2 hours).

Again, apart from transport to get there, it is worth visiting the parliament building 'Stormont Park' located on the outskirts of the city. It is an impressive building and has nice gardens.

You have to visit the Bigfish and get your picture taken. And the lady with the hoop too.

Walking around Clarendon Dock is very nice and historic too with the Harland and Wolf cranes.

There will be lots of free, live music, in both the new and the traditional bars, but you will have to purchase at least a half pint of Guinness! : )

The Cathedral quarter is where a lot of bars, galleries, music, etc will be happening.

There is free Table Tennis in a bar called Cuckoo

Keep an eye out for things happening the time you are there.
