Hotel between Beijing Train Station and South Beijing Station

Hi, esteemed travellers, we will be in Beijing for 4 nights in August and would like recommendations for hotels between the above stations.  We would like to be close enough to visit Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City.  We would like to visit The Great Wall also.

Our budget is $70 per night, would like reasonable comfort as we are over 60 yrs

Is this a tall order, hope not

I recommend hotels around Beijing Railway Station, since it's near to the Forbidden CityTiananmen Square, and the Temple of Heaven, and only 30 minutes railway distance from the south station(Line 4).

Besides, if you want to go to The Great Wall Of China, you can take train from North Station Huochang, which in Xizhimen Station(Line 4),about 30 minutes railway distance from Beijing Station(Line 2).

When it comes to which specific hotel you book, I recommend a Chinese flight&hotel booking website(English version), you can set the search words to locate appropriate hotels.

Hello Vicki,

We stayed at the 3-star Beijing Botaihotel on 140 Jiaodaokou South St in Dongcheng Qu area of Beijing. The hotel was arranged by a British tour company as we were doing the Trans-Mongolian tour from Russia to Beijing.

Botai Hotel was a very very basic hotel and cost around US$40 a night on Most of the staff speak little to no English, and the Wi-Fi wasn't great.

The location is a big plus if you like to walk to places of interest and restaurants. Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City are within walking distance from the hotel. In fact, we walked everywhere during our 3-night stay – to Beijing Hutongs like Nan Luo Gu Xiang (trendy shops, restaurants, and bars) and Ju'er Hutong. We walked to Wangfujing St, a popular pedestrian-only street. It took us about an hour to walk to Tiananmen Square from Botai Hotel.

Botai Hotel is only 5 km away from Beijing Railway Station Beijing Railway Station, and 40 minutes by metro from Beijing South Railway Station. The Temple of Heaven is less than an hour's drive away.

For more comfort, I would recommend paying a little more and staying at the Grand Hotel Beijing (about $100 per night) or Beijing Marriott City Wall Hotel (about $150 per night). Both hotels are in Dongcheng Qu area. Grand Hotel Beijing is a 10-minute walk to Tiananmen Square.
