Scenic Route

My husband and I are driving from Baton Rouge, LA to the Grand Canyon at the end of October. We're planning to stop in Witchita Falls, TX on our first night then go to Santa Fe. Then we'll drive from Santa Fe to Tusayan, AZ. What is the most scenic route for this drive?

Baton Rouge (Louisiana) Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona)   Wichita Falls (Texas)   Santa Fe (New Mexico)   Tusayan (Arizona)

You really don't have much choice but to drive I-40 once you're in NM and AZ, the replacement to old Route 66. You'll find parts of 66 along the way.
Hopi reservation is closed to outsiders due to COVID. They are a very high risk group. Definitely stop at Petrified Forest and Meteor Crater. You can get some hiking in. Bring lots of water, food and sunscreen. There are not too many amenities along the way. If you're up to it you can make reservations at wigwam motel, and sleep in a very old roadside attraction. It's definitely not fancy, lol. It's part of the Route 66 history.
You can get on 89 north once you get to flagstaff and head north to Cameron and go into Grand Canyon East entrance to get to Tusayan. It has scenic views of the Grand Canyon, but Desert View visitors center is closed due to COVID.

Thank so much! We plan to go to the Petrified Forest. Going into the east entrance to Tusayan sounds great!
