We wil be in Barcelona for about a week in June (not our first time). My husband and I would like to visit the surroundings (if it is recommended) either to smaller towns or beaches nearby. We are open to rent a car for two/three days or take a quick train. We are budget travelers but don't mind splurging if it is worth it. Any recommendations?
Gracias in advance!
North of Barcelona there is the Costa Brava area. A lot of nice places there. Me and my girlfriend went to Lloret de Mar (the place itself is not that nice, very touristic) and rented a quad and then we went to smaller, really lovely places around the coast.

Make a point of checking out Montserrat, it's beautiful, secluded and surrounded by nature, they even have hotels atop the hill -- would be a great little getaway.
My husband and I visited San Sebastian and would highly recommend the Basque Country. So beautiful, SO different from Barcelona, amazing food (some of the best in the world - seriously), and easily accessible by car or train! We took a train from the Barcelona station and were in San Sebastian in only a handful of hours.
