When I am in Bali, what foods and dishes must I try? I have no dietary restrictions and am open to trying all local cuisines. Also, I imagine there are many street food stands, but if anyone has specific restaurants, markets, and areas to recommend, that would be fantastic!
There are so many great places here... It's so difficult to make an exhaustive list, so from the top of my head:
- Warung Bambuku: Indo
- KZU: Indo
- Warung Kolega: Indo
- Warung Cahaya: Indo
- Zibiru Restaurant: Italian
- Teatro Gastroteque: pricy but excellent!
- L'Assiette Restaurant: French
I'm missing so many of them cause they don't really have any name. Come say hi to me and I'll show you a lot more ;)

If you like fried duck, you can also try Bebek Bengil in Nusa Dua. It's a nice restaurant by the shore. They serve your duck with a lot of condiments to choose made from different spices. It's a place where I would go back to when I'm in Bali.
Because so many Aussies visit Kuta Beach they sell welded sandwiches called jaffles which are delicious. Also, I loved the nasi goreng and mie goreng which is Indonesian style fried rice and noodles. Finally, enjoy all the wonderful tropical fruits. Have a great time!
Babi Guling. If I were in Bali and eat only one meal, I would get Babi Guling. The one in Ubud at Ibu Oka Warung by the Royal Palace.
if your like pork or beef ribs, you shall try Iiga Warung then Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika for its famous spicy chilli and grilled seafood at Jimbaran Bay Cafe. Babi guling (suckling pig) at Warung Babi Guling Pak Malen is a must, too! :)

Let me suggest that you go to a cooking school while there. We did so Ubud and had both a fun time with the group and ate some wonderful food. I grew up in Indonesia 55 year ago and love the food. If I could only have one item it would be babi guling.
