Bali

Beach town with waves near Ubud as a Kuta Alternative?

I'll be in Bali for a few weeks in August. I'll be staying in Ubud but I'd like to stay a few days on the water.

I'm looking for a recommendation on a beach town in the south/southeast of the island that isn't crowded like Kuta and might have some surf.

Thanks!

Hi Nathan,

Ubud is far from the beach. Alternatively not so crowded beach 1-2 hours driving from Ubud is Green Bowl Beach in the south Bali, Padang Padang beach, and White Sand Beach (Bias Tugel) (east Bali). Take a car with driver (full day would cost about USD40-45) including english speaking driver, gasoline and parking.

Seminyak and Benoa are less crowded and touristy than Kuta. The beaches are mainly private and connected to the larger resorts. The surf is choppy and better for water sports and speed boats. The beach in kuta is cautiously crowded but perfect for surfing.

Hi Nathan,

Ubud is in central Bali, so not really close to beach towns. But If you're looking for a beach town in the south,  Uluwatu is much less crowded than Kuta . I'm not a surfer, but from my limited knowledge, there are many surf beaches around this area such as Sulumban beach, Dreamland beach, Balangan Beach.

Other places you could try would be the beaches around Canggu

But hopefully someone with surfing experience can give you a bit more information on this one :)
