Hi Vicky, about an hour North of Austin is a great little place called Salado which is worth exploring. Even better is if you rent a golf cart and stop by the visitor center for some ideas on how you can make the best of a self-guided adventure through the village. Try your hand at blowing glass art, take a tour of the royal street district or browse some of the unique boutique shops. There are plenty of places to eat however, I recommend Cathy's Boardwalk Cafe, good food, wonderful staff been around for over twenty five years. May I also recommend once in Waco, Hawk's Hot Chicken (one of the ten best places for fried chicken in all of Texas) and George’s Restaurant Bar & Catering, great place for lunch (extensive menu with American and Mexican classics, been around for eighty years)
