Weekend in Austin!

What are some must sees while in Austin?!  I've already researched on Trippy for food suggestions (seems like Franklin's is a definite recommend) but let's get a short list of what to see or do.  Day and night activities.

Twenty somethings.

Traveling with a companion (Not the Doctor :)

Arriving Friday night, leaving Sunday afternoon.

If you're morning people try catching the sunrise from Mount Bonnell, it's just as pretty as the sunset, and there are very few people.

Sixth St is gross, except for a reservation only craft cocktail bar: Midnight Cowboy

For restaurants I love Hillside Farmacy and Dai Due. And I totally second Lick Ice Creams

Take a look at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema or Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar to see if they're having a special showing while you're in town. I heartily recommend Master Pancake.

If you want to check out producer/grower only farmers markets SFC Farmers' Market-Downtown is on Saturday and HOPE Farmers Market is on Sunday.

Speaking of HOPE, you'll want to check out their HOPE Outdoor Gallery too. If you have a car, park a couple of streets over, it's safer and less crazy-making.

Honestly if you can only go to one city in Texas, make it the Dallas/Fort Worth There are so many mega cities wrapped up in this sprawling, stunning, dynamic, megalopolis! Millions upon millions of restaurants, {several 4 & 5 stars}, several top drawer steak houses, Bob's Steak & Chop House in Grapevine, & III Forks in North Dallas, & for the best burgers, Flips Patio Grillalso in Grapevine! For the best Italian cuisine there is Baris Pizza & Pasta in suburban Flower Mound! The shopping is supreme! First class shopping & mega malls, galore! The 3 best malls are: The Galleria Dallas, {in North Dallas} have lunch or dinner at the Grand Lux Cafe, {at the Galleria Dallas}, Grapevine Mills & NorthPark Center. Dallas is original home of Neiman Marcus, see the original store in downtown Dallas! The DFW area have numerous elegant & fancy 5 star hotels! The Dallas/Ft Worth-Metro/Plex also have several wonderful sight seeing venues, my favorite being The Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden, a virtual flower land of beauty! The culture in downtown Dallas & downtown Ft Worth rival any large east coast city! I once came to Dallas for a friend's wedding & a mini vacation {from Huntington Beach, CA} & loved the area so much, I ended up moving to a suburb of Dallas a few months later! That was 20 years ago!

Gee Pat, looking through your past answers, one would think you had something against Austin.

Hello Polly! I was just being as helpful & honest as I could be! All Austin has to offer is the "State Capitol" and that's not much!

For Franklins BBQ you have to be there like at 9.30 or 10.00 for lunch. I have tried twice lunch and on those ocassions a girl comes to the line to tell you they are sold out!. Sounds to me its overrated. I gave up.

Grab a Chronicle when you get in (free everywhere) to see what's going on.

Franklins BBQ will be tough on the weekend. Get there by 9am and be prepared to wait 3+ hours.

Uchi Restauranta must for dinner. Again, long wait. Pro tip - Get there at 5 and sit at the sushi bar.

Tacodeli for tacos.

@Polvo for authentic Mexican.

Lonesome Dove for upscale unique wild game plates

Lick for artisan ice cream.

Juiceland for amazing smoothies

Hike or bike the greenbelt or paddleboard or kayak on the lake if its nice.

Shop around S. Congress

Drinks at Hula Hut on the lake

Continental Club for live music (or grab a Chronicle and find a band you want to see)

Peche for absinthe/drinks downtown

Rooftop bar at Speakeasy

Restaurants: for a great hang and late night food, try Justine's on (far) east 5th street. They have a great space and fantastic drinks. Awesome staff. Food is French Bistro style. Owners are from Paris (Pierre and Justine). Tres Romantic!

On south congress ave., try Enoteca Vespaio. It's a casual Italian (not spaghetti!) place. My consistent fave in Austin. Super clean , locally sourced food. Fantastic and not very expensive. also has a nice bar and great staff.

Mexican Food: Guero's on South Congress. Margaritas!! Get the appetizer tacos Al Pastor!

Bars: 2 places on south congress:

The Continental Club and C-Boy's Heart & Soul. Both have good websites.

Enjoy Austin. Don't go to 6th street no matter what anyone says . It's full of drunk ass fratboys and it SUCKS!!!
