Fun Places for Foodies in Atlanta?

I am from California and am meeting a friend in Atlanta for the weekend and we've both never been. I love trying new cool food places that don't necessarily have to be the newest or hottest, just hoping for a few authentic Atlanta recommendations when it comes to food or bars. We're both 27 and love trying new places. Any thoughts?

Any Houston's restaurant, Mellow Mushroom and Sun Dial Restaurant at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel are my longtime favorites. Oh, and I almost forgot, Cafe Intermezzo is great for coffee and desert.

The Krog Street Market is a great recommendation!

Food 101 is an all-time favorite. Empire State South is great southern food with a foodie twist. American Food and Beverage in the Buckhead Atlanta area has incredible bar drinks and food.

Not sure if this will reach you in time but Taste of Atlanta is actually this weekend and today (Sunday) is the last day. It's a large outdoor event with 90+ restaurant vendors, a great chance to try out different Atlanta restaurants.

Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market both have lots of dining choices for foodies. The former currently has about half of its Food Hall vendors open for business (burgers, Chinese, Korean, Bars, Coffee); and the latter is pretty much complete with food stalls and actual sit-down restaurants.

Have a great time!

Atlanta has zillions of great restaurants.  depends completely on what genre you're looking for.  For burgers, one of the best is Vortex Bar & Grill which has 2 or so locations.  one in midtown another is Little Five Points.  Good "down home cooking" is The Colonnade Restaurant. This is sort of an institution in that it's patronized by all types - from little old ladies to drag queens.  not fancy but good.  Pallookaville Fine Foods is amazing for homemade sausages, hot dogs. Kitchy décor too.

For fancier restaurants - Ray's In the City has excellent steak and seafood.

southern cooking - Flying Biscuit Cafe

Seafood -Goin' Coastal in Virginia Highlands

Decatur has a lot of cool restaurants and pubs in the little downtown area too
