Any hiking trails in or near ATL?

I'm going to Atlanta this weekend and me and a friend want to do a little hiking. Where are the best places to hike in or near Atlanta? And will it be cold?

While there are a lot of places close by, I would suggest driving a little further outside of the city for the best hikes. My favorite spots are Amicalola Falls State Park & LodgeHigh Shoals Falls, and Panther Creek Trailhead. If you can't leave the city, an iconic hike is Stone Mountain and Vickery Creek Falls Roswell Mill is relaxing and beautiful. Have fun hiking!

Hi Ida - Some quick ideas (of various types): Stone Mountain has a trail where you can climb the mountain. Pretty steep near the top, but they provide handrails. The top of the mountain is pretty neat (all rock, so almost like another planet!). Another good mountain option is Kennesaw Mountain. If you are looking for easy trails, the Silver Comet Trail is very popular for walking, biking, running. There are different spots along the Chattahoochee River, but my favorite is Cochran Shoals - Powers Island. It's an easy loop walk/hike with a wide gravel trail along the river. Especially early in the morning, you can see some great wildlife, too. Finally, the Appalachian Trail begins at Springer Mountain which is a short drive outside Atlanta. The weather this time of year (October) is beautiful -- colder in the evenings, but during the day, really nice (mid-to-high 70s). Hope that helps! Enjoy your visit!

Stone Mountain, GA. you can hike up to the top and get a nice view of downtown and midtown Atlanta. There are also trails around the base of the mountain to bike/hike.

There are some nice hiking trails along the Chattahoochee River in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. There are various locations where you can park your car for the trails. has some great suggestions.
