This is a 12 hour drive. There are two main ways you can go. You can go from Annapolis up to Baltimore and out I-68 and I-70 to Morgantown and then down I-79 to Charleston (West Virginia). Charleston is a little less than half way (5.5 hours) but is a nice place to stay. You can go a little farther along the road if you want to make it closer to half way. Then take I-64 to Lexington (which has KY Horse World), Elizabethtown (Kentucky) (Stephen Foster park), and then on to Paducah. That is the way I would prefer.
You can also go west around Washington, DC out I-66 to I-81. That takes you by Roanoke and Blacksburg (Virginia). This is a nice drive along the east side of the mountains. The halfway point is a small place called Abingdon (Virginia). Then you go through Knoxville and Nashville on the way to Paducah.
