Snow City Cafe is downtown and now you can call or text ahead for a reservation, which cuts down on the wait. Get a coffee while waiting and read a paper. Orso is good, Kinley's Restaurant & Bar, Bear Tooth Theatrepubor Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria are both delicious. Fat Ptarmigan is also downtown and good - pizza and italian style food. Even the pubs like McGinley's Pub have good food, so you really can't go wrong.

Snow City Cafe is good for breakfast (downtown) but can have a long wait, Torchon Bistro for weekend brunch, Club Paris (also downtown) has great burgers for lunch (made from ground prime rib) and the best steaks for dinner. The ambience may not be what you are looking for, so some other favorites are Glacier Brewhouse, Simon & Seafort's, Orso. Anchorage has lots of good restaurants, it really is hard to pick a favorite.

Middle Way Cafe - breakfast, lunch and early dinner (mostly organic and/or locally sourced)

Katie my favorite is the Bear Tooth Theatrepub. Go there every year when we are there for summer. Have been going for 9 straight years now. It has a cinema attached to it so there will be lots of people. But sit on the right hand side and they have Moose's Tooth brewery on tap and the food is seafood with fish specialty. The fish has options for grilled, seared, pasta, tacos, etc... I enjoy the clam chowder, however other people in this world are very picky on their chowder.

Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria is a "Must Try."  Beer brewed on premises.  From the tame to the very intoxicating.  Specialty is pizza.  The Nacho's Mexican Restaurant pretty darn good as well.  Can't go wrong for simple, delicious food.
