NetherlandsBelgium and France are all party to the Schengen agreement so once you have cleared one border, you can freely travel within the other Schengen countries. Just be aware, though, that since the Paris attacks, border controls have tightened up.

  • Cologne(Cologne) is your best bet - it's 2.5 hours by train and getting pretty hip for a medium sized German city. Kolsch beer is great and free flowing
  • Dusseldorf - 2.5 hours, not as hip as koln, but they PARTY hard

  • Rotterdam - .75hrs -one of my favorite cities there, great, futuristic architecture and worth a day biking around
  • Leiden - 1hr - cool, smaller university town
  • The Hague - .5hrs fairly sleepy, but cool old historic city, very green and pretty in spring & there's a pretty cool beach there

  • Ghent - 3h awesome medium sized city in Belgium. Super authentic, super nice people, great food, great beer.
  • Antwerp - 2.5h pretty cool place, they have a great market and a pretty chill vibe. Some good stuff.
  • Liege - 3h - closest way to get to French speaking Belgium, heard it's cool.
  • Bruges - tourist trap, don't bother IMO

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Cologne (city)
  2. Dusseldorf (city)
  3. Rotterdam (city)
  4. Leiden (attraction)

I assume you have a Dutch visa. With that you can travel the Schengen area freely. Most EU countries are part of that, however the UK isn't.

Alexandra from Brussels, Belgium

If you have a visa for Amsterdam, it's valid for the whole EU, so any cities in the EU. Not far there's Rotterdam - Brussels - Antwerp - Brugge - Den Haag. You can go to Dusseldorf in Germany in 3h by train too.

if you can travel in the netherlands you should be able to move freely throughout the EU countries
