Amsterdam, Utrecht, Haarlem, The Hague, Delft

Where to spend 1 day after 4 days in Amsterdam?

Hi everyone,

We're going to spend 4 days in Amsterdam after Christmas. And then we'd like to stay one more night somewhere not too far from Amsterdam (around 1-2 hours by car) on our way back to Luxembourg. We're hesitating between Haarlem, Utrecht, The Hague and Delft. Any suggestions?

Thanks! ;)

I would go to Delft. We just came back. We decided to go to Bruges  after Amsterdam, it was wonderful. We stopped in the The Hague and say Madurodam. The Hague is a larger modern city. We stopped in Delft ob the way back and wished we had more time. We visited the Royal Delft Experience Amsterdam B.V. Royal Delft factory and then ran out of time. The older city on the canals was very quaint. We wanted to eat there but we're unable to park. Parking meters did not accept chip cards in the lots.

I would also suggest while in Amsterdam taking a tour out to see Volendam and Marken.

I'd go with Delft.  You can visit the Vermeer Centrum Delft (museum dedicated to the work of 17th century painter Jan Vermeer), the Nieuwe Kerk, the Oude Kerk and the Delft synagogue, as well as tour one or two of the porcelain factories.  Delft's centre is also a great place to walk, shop, eat and admire Dutch life.  Make sure you pick up an apple pie from Kobus Kuch on your way out of town (or more than one because you'll probably end up devouring the first one on the train back to Luxembourg :-) )

I would go to The Hague. This is our political capital and has some really interesting sites such as Binnenhof

I would definitely recommend to check out Groningen, if you are in the Netherlands. It is not as close as Haarlem and Leiden are, but in 2 hours you are there and Groningen really has a lot to offer. Nice Museums and a lots of cool bars, since Groningen is a University Town.
