Jillian from Los Angeles asked

Where are the top 3 shopping areas in Amsterdam?

Best streets, shops, areas for boutique shopping only in Amsterdam? Looking for the hip neighborhoods that have unique stores where I can find clothes, jewelry, etc. that I can only get locally in Amsterdam. Thanks!

Hi Jillian, next to the 9 , Haarlemmerstraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat and the Jordaan also check out the Gerard Doustraat (between the Ferdinand Bolstraat and Gerard Douplein) and the Eerste van der Helststraat in De Pijp (between the Albert Cuypmarket and Sarphatipark), very close to the Albert Cuypmarkt. One of my favorite shops is Anna + Nina, Gerard Doustraat 94. The first shop in this area with a small but good clothing collection is Raak, Enjoy!

Besides the Negen Straatjes also be sure to check out Haarlemmerdijk . Besides quirky little boutiques it also has some nice little cafes and The Movies which is an art cinema from 1912 still with the same decor. It also has a restaurant and bar, and you can take your drinks with you into the room. They play a lot of English movies. If you happen to be around on the first Sunday of the month, go to Westerpark, where they have an artisan / crafts market from around 11AM till 6PM. They also serve all sorts of great street food and you can find a lot of quirky and good quality hand crafted products. In general in Amsterdam you are likely to stumble upon small unique shops all the time, once you leave the most commercial area (Kalverstraat) .

Be sure to check the so-called 9-streets, nice boutiques. Just ask people on the street to direct you to this good shopping area in the Canals of Amsterdam.

In addition to the Negen StraatjesUtrechtsestraat and Haarlemmerstraat try Cornelis Schuytstraat for upscale boutiques and generally the Jordaan.

Yes, Negen Straatjes is always a good area and Haarlemmerstraat is also a nice one. But also don't miss Utrechtsestraat! Maybe a little bit more mainstream, but lots of nice shops, cafes, bars and restaurants!

Every one here seems to have forgotten Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat without a doubt the best high end shopping area in Amsterdam.
