Hi, I will be visiting late March, have a couple of day free would love to see, eat and shop like a local, what are the best places in the city? Ideally foodie reataurants with great wines, where do the locals hang out for drinks and what should I see? If I shop, where do I go not to get taken like the tourist that I am? Thanks
Relatively new cosy spots for a beer and more outside city centre (west); check out Van Mechelen (close to Vondelpark), Bar Baarsch, Café Zurich. Now for local local food you'd go to Hap-Hmm. Not sure whether this turned into a tourist attraction yet. Used to be locals only....

Have a look at http://www.yourlittleblackbook.me/nl/category/reizen/cityguides/amsterdam/ for the latest foodie restaurants.Good places are BAUT, Repéré and Bar Brouw. I shop at the 9 little streets and Haarlemmerstraat, great coffee places of there as well!

Apple Pie is very famous in Amsterdam. We ate it at the Villa Zeezicht and it was amazing. Nice little cafe - also the ciabattas and other stuff was very good. So, now you've got something for the afternoon ;)
