Places to drink craft beer in central Amsterdam?

I know Amsterdam is home to Heineken, but I'm looking for something more local. I'd like to try great locally made beers, but I only have one day in the city in April. Where are the must drink spots?

I was thinking of both de Brouwerij 't IJ and Brouwerij de Praelas well - both make great local beers.

unfortunately the website for de Prael is not in English, but maybe it helps?

It's not beer but you could try to taste some "jenever", a kind of Dutch gin, all kinds with wonderful names like "A walk in the woods", Wynand Fockink, and also, remember neighbouring Belgium has the best beers in the world!

Brouwerij 't IJ is definetely one that produces nice beer. However,  Cafe 't Smalle is a better and more Old Amsterdam like place to enjoy those beers in the Jordaan area.

Btw if you would consider coming to Haarlem (15min train ride), the  Jopenkerk is really really great. It's a bar (actually elected to be the best bar in Holland) ánd functioning brewery situated in an old church. They brew and serve Jopenbier, a collective name for many different Jopenbeers. http://www.jopen.nl/en/our-beers/

Highly recommend it!

I wanted to suggest the Brouwerij de Prael too. The story behind it is also very interesting.

If you had more time I would suggest visiting the beer makers in Utrecht. Maybe we you are in Holland longer

  2. Utrecht (city)
