Amsterdam

10 hour overnight layover

Hello,

I have a ten hour layover in Amsterdam. My plan lands at around 8:30 at night and I have to fly out at 6:30 AM which means I should be back at the airport at 4:30.

Are there any cheap hotels or hostels nearby the Schipol airport where I can get a few hours of sleep without spending an arm and a leg?

Also, what public transportation options do I have getting back to the airport at 4 AM in the morning?

Thank you so much for your help.

There are of course hotels in and near Amsterdam Airport Schiphol though none are what I'd call 'cheap' (same with all airports). Imo, the same applies to Amsterdam itself though it does have a huge range of accommodation, including hostels and airbnb. Here's the official airport page:

https://www.schiphol.nl/en/what-to-do-at-schiphol/hotels/

There is a Yotel inside Schiphol itself, which might be suitable if you just want to sleep for a few hours:

Schiphol is a very pleasant airport with lots of places to sit, eat & drink as well as a library and mini-Rijksmuseum. Occupying yourself for the remainder of the time outside the Yotel pod shouldn't be a problem. :-)

If you do decide to go into Amsterdam I suggest you start by looking at the long-established and reliable www.booking.com which lists and accurately maps pretty much all accommodation in and around Amsterdam, including the airport.

Try to find somewhere within easy walking distance of Amsterdam Centraal railway station. Trains from/to Schiphol run frequently during the day but only hourly during the early hours of the morning. You should aim to catch the 3.46am, which will get you to Schiphol for 4am. Train times, details and fares on the official Dutch railway website:

We used the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel and Conference Center (chosen for proximity) & were very pleased.  That hotel, plus (I recall) the Hilton Amsterdam & another are immediately off the main concourse into another concourse like wide walkway - simply, part of the airport - all interior access.    While we LOVE Amsterdam, I don't think I'd dash in on your schedule (tho I would be tempted).  I think far better not to be wiped out on the next leg of your journey.
