About Me

I'm a survivor of my first heart attack and subsequent open heart surgery for a triple bypass procedure at the age of 35 (I am now 39). I have had a total of 3 angioplasty proccedures, 1 stent procedure, and 1 open heart surgery. I'm told that I'm lucky to be alive. Since then I live my life to the fullest, exploring new things, not putting anything off til tomorrow in case tomorrow never comes.

AHonolulu: Over-night in Honolulu- Things we can't miss?

Off the top of my head if you are here April 20 or 28 there is the Iolani Carnival. That’s a great way to try local food, in addition to the usual carnival fare they offer a lot of local food too. If you are here on April 28 there is the Waikiki Spam Jam with a lot of... See More

AHonolulu: Best Luau

It all depends on when you are here. If the stars align and you happen to be here at the right time nothing beats a church luau, short of being invited to a wedding or baby’s first birthday it doesn’t get any more authenthic. The biggest two are put on by Liliuokalani... See More

AKalihi - Palama: Safety and Stigma

Lol, a lot of areas on this island probably are labeled as unfriendly or dangerous. That being said coming with that thought is not a good idea. True there are areas that you want to stay away from if you are not from like the housing. As long as you just be cool, use your... See More

AHawaii: Where to go to avoid tourists and see the real Hawaii

Let me ask what do you mean by big crowds? Honestly most places that you might want to go will be crowded but there are things you can do so it's not so bad. Such as:    - Helena's Hawaiian Food, do NOT go on Tuesday. Since they are closed... See More

AWaikiki: Travel within the island

There is always THeBus which is our form of mass transit here in Hawaii. They have 4day passes available too. You can find more information at See More

AHonolulu: Best beaches in Honolulu/Oahu?

K, since people are still reading answers I thought I would update mine. AVOID Lanikai Beach and Kailua  (this is coming from a local that actually lives here). If you decide to go to Lanikai make sure to call the City and ask if... See More

AWailea Makena: Maui WOWIE!!??

Don't know much about Maui but right now I wouldn't mind some pie from Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop, guri guri from Tasaka Guri Guri Shop, & manju from Home Made Bakery See More

AWhat is your favorite type of hotel and why?

The type without bed bugs. Honestly my main concern is how sanitary it is and how safe it is. After that everything is secondary since most of the times while on vacation I don't plan to spend that much time in the actual hotel room. See More

AMaui: Best type of rental car for the Road to Hana?

K, since no one mentioned this I will suggest you call the company that you are thinking of renting from and see if they even allow you to drive there. Also DO NOT leave anything in your car while vacationing even if you think you that it doesn't matter because you... See More

AO'ahu: Beautiful hikes on Oahu? Medium difficulty but some family oriented hikes

Let me start by saying avoid Haiku Stairs aka Stairway to Heaven. Considering it is closed and illegal to hike. If you are lucky and you get caught you might get off with a warning when the neighbors call the police on you, if not face a possible fine or worse. Here is... See More
