Kent Halliburton

Bandon, Oregon

About Me

I’m an incredibly lucky soul to have lived the life I have and do. An extension of the pioneering movement that pushed west across the US, I’m a fourth generation Oregonian with the great fortunate to grow up in Bandon, on the naturally bejeweled and desolate southern coast, on a cranberry farm where I learned a sense of self worth, work ethic, and up-by-the-bootstraps know-how in a loving family environment extending well into the town’s community of 2800. After high school, that community provided the resources to launch south to San Luis Obispo, a mediteranean styled oasis just south of sacred Big Sur and out of reach of California’s urban centers, for a college education at Cal Poly, where the motto is “Learn By Doing”. Besides a Computer Engineering degree, what I learned was how to surf, how to teach myself, the value of delicious, local food, and an unabating deep love for the Central Coast of California. A passion for our collective renewable energy future drove me to a career in the solar eletric industry where, with more great fortune and under the tutelage of passionate leadership, I rose to a leadership role myself culminating in four years of executive leadership at a publicly traded, national solar installation company. But always the dream of world travel remained, nutured from my youth by reading books by Richard Halliburton, a distance relative from the 1930s and 40s who shared my father’s name. And the growth in my career never paralled the growth of my world-travel dream. I quit my job in July 2012 to follow the dream that you now read.

A new dream has been born in the last year and it involves my home on the Oregon Coast, where I will return to the farming life in 2016, doing what I can to help the community and, with a little luck, raising a family of my own.

Find out more about me at my website and feel free to drop me a line. I love adventure, people, and this great world of ours.
