I am 34 going on 35 and have had the good fortune to have traveled a lot since a young age, both domestically and abroad. After a bit of a hiatus in traveling, a few years ago I left for Asia and spent a year traveling around. I specifically fell in love with Japan and am now back in the states learning Japanese with the plan to move to Japan indefinitely. よろしくおねがいします。
What tourist traps around the world are worth the visit?
One of the great experiences of my life has been seeing Michelangelo's David in Florence, actually twice. Once when I was 14 and again when I was 18. I remember the first time, waiting in that ridiculous line with my parents outside the museum in... See More
Tokyo: Should I take yen to Tokyo or is it easy to get good exchange rates?
I'm surprised by Christopher Barruad's response. There are 7-11 stores all over Japan, and they all have ATMs that accept Visa, MasterCard, etc. I mean literally, 7-11s are everywhere. The ATMs at other convenience stores won't accept your card; only 7-11s specifically.... See More

Japan: Favorite place in Japan?
What is your favorite place to visit in Japan, and why? Either a town or a specific location in a city, etc. If someone asked you, what single place or activity should I not miss if I am going to Japan, what would you say? See More
Kyoto: Best to stay near Central Kyoto or Kyoto station?
Kyoto is small enough that it won't make a huge difference either way, in my opinion. Yes, Gion is neat and more historic, but the station itself and the area around it has plenty going on, too. You will undoubtedly find yourself in both areas,... See More
