About Me

I am 34 going on 35 and have had the good fortune to have traveled a lot since a young age, both domestically and abroad. After a bit of a hiatus in traveling, a few years ago I left for Asia and spent a year traveling around. I specifically fell in love with Japan and am now back in the states learning Japanese with the plan to move to Japan indefinitely. よろしくおねがいします。

AWhat tourist traps around the world are worth the visit?

One of the great experiences of my life has been seeing Michelangelo's David in Florence, actually twice. Once when I was 14 and again when I was 18. I remember the first time, waiting in that ridiculous line with my parents outside the museum in... See More

ATokyo: Should I take yen to Tokyo or is it easy to get good exchange rates?

I'm surprised by Christopher Barruad's response. There are 7-11 stores all over Japan, and they all have ATMs that accept Visa, MasterCard, etc. I mean literally, 7-11s are everywhere. The ATMs at other convenience stores won't accept your card; only 7-11s specifically.... See More

ADallas: Best Tex Mex and BBQ near Downtown

Who is that lunatic who recommended El Fenix. No, don't go there, trust me. Pepe's & Mito's Mexican Cafe is a good suggestion, and Ojeda's is classic. See More

ALos Angeles to Vancouver: Road Trip from Los Angeles to Vancouver - Spots I can't miss?

This might be obvious, but in case it's not, once you are in California, you should definitely take the 101 and not the mind-numbingly boring (thought slightly faster) I-5. The 101 through Northern California is one of the greatest drives I know of.  See More

ATokyo: Day trip from Tokyo to Kyoto?

So, people here are clearly divided, but I think it would be a real shame for you to miss out on Kyoto. Yes, Tokyo is huge, dense, varied, and you could never run out of things to do there. But it's really a hectic place, and Kyoto moves at a very different pace. Going... See More

QJapan: Favorite place in Japan?

What is your favorite place to visit in Japan, and why? Either a town or a specific location in a city, etc. If someone asked you, what single place or activity should I not miss if I am going to Japan, what would you say? See More

AKyoto: Best to stay near Central Kyoto or Kyoto station?

Kyoto is small enough that it won't make a huge difference either way, in my opinion. Yes, Gion is neat and more historic, but the station itself and the area around it has plenty going on, too. You will undoubtedly  find yourself in both areas,... See More

ADowntown Los Angeles: any good sushi?

You simply can't go wrong with Sushi Gen. I have eaten there so many times and always had an amazing meal. See More
