I'm not positive that they arrange tours but Hostel Elf is a great place to stay. It's near a lot of bars and cafes and im sure you'll meet plenty of people.

Your kids would probably really like the Museum für Naturkunde (nature museum), I did when I was little! There are some great dinosaur bones here. The Aquarium Berlin could be fun too! I would also head up to the Kinderbauernhof...
