Tips and reviews

Here's what Trippy members say about Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast:

"If you don't want to come to New Zealand, you may like Australia I've stayed in both the Gold Coast and Melbourne but in December to January it does get quite hot with heatwaves so if you're coming then be aware of the heat. Most hotels are airconditioned, but check when you book as not all are. TRAVEL: In the Gold Coast Use the Trams - buy a GoTrans card from a 7-11 store and top up about $5-$10 per day. We topped up $30 and it lasted a full week. We used the trams maybe a handful of times across 4 days. (Australian Dollars). In Melbourne there is a similar card, you can use it on the Trams, Trains and Public Buses. Uber is common and cheap travel too. Do not use Taxis or Shuttle to and from the airport! It's about 1/3 of the price to go via Uber! ADULT FUN Crown Melbourne is a casino in Melbourne. There's a Casino in Gold Coast too, near Pacific Fair Shopping Mall but I can't remember the name of it. It's across the bridge anyway. Star? I don't know. We did spend a few hours there. In the Gold Coast some points of interest are a day trip to Australia Zoo which is also called the Steve Irwin Zoo (The Crocodile Hunter, he died after being stung by a sting ray). Take a tour bus there and back, it's easier. You can get tour bus and zoo entry tickets off the Voucher websites like Grab One, make the prices slightly cheaper by $2+ off per ticket too. Great for kids and families as well as adults. Watch the Croc show with the Birds fly over etc it's amazing. Do splash out on the Encounters, we spent a little and got to go up close with the Tortoises and it's a great photo and memory we share. Dracula's Comedy Cabaret Restaurant Gold Coast is a little on the pricy side, but it's a fantastic dinner and show experience. We've also done the Melbourne one Dracula's Comedy Cabaret Restaurant Melbourne they're similar but have different main actors etc. The waitstaff and everyone are so lovely and accommodating. They 'play' with the audience too, so don't leave anything on your plate or your waiter might just feed it to you! They did to me when I left a piece of lettuce, then grinned and asked if the rest of my group knew I was vegan. (Lots of laughs and fun for most ages). Sometimes it's R rated shows, other times it's viewer discretion. Kids 10+ or so will probably enjoy it. Mostly adults aged 16+ and up to 100! SHOPPING Harbour Town Drive is where there's a shopping centre of the same name in the Gold Coast. Lots of discount stores and outlet shopping. Takes a good day to do. We did a lot of shopping at places like Target, Kmart, and Big W as we don't have local ones in New Zealand. We went to the outlet stores at Pacific Fair Drive you can either walk or tram there from Surfers Paradise which is where a lot of the hotels are. Walking will take perhaps an hour, while it's 15 minutes on the tram. Beach side markets run during the week year round, Wednesday, Friday and in the weekend. During summer the hours increase. There's a Maori Kiwi woman who sells home made fudge, chocolates and such, very yummy! We bought 3 containers off her. THINGS TO DO: Infinity Attraction is a great 30 minute interactive space. You go through 20 rooms of varying types from a room of mirrors, a vast room of infinite space etc... My fiance has been twice and raves about it! If you want to explore some nature there's a ZipLine tour that goes through Mount Tamborine which is on my list for when we go over next! Indoor sky diving at iFLY Gold Coast where we all went indoor skydiving, weight limits apply. There's a $30 surcharge if you're over 105kg for example, which covers the instructors insurance if something was to go wrong eg hurt the instructor in some way. Instructors wear full suits and full face helmets. You're provided with a wing suit, helmet, goggles and ear plugs. It's cheapest to get the $419 package and share between 4 people if possible, maximum 5. You get 50 second flights each. There's an extra add on of $10 per person to fly to the top with the instructor as well. You also get a video of the whole session with the $419 package. (Prices in Australian Dollars). There are also a handful of theme parks neay by, they're really popular in summertime. I've actually never been as a I don't enjoy themeparks. But there are some there such as Movie World, Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast TRAVEL: In the Gold Coast Use the Trams - buy a GoTrans card from a 7-11 store and top up about $5-$10 per day.
