"First of all, use the subway system. You will get anywhere you want to go in the Greater Boston area much faster this way. This is a very user friendly system and not that expensive. Harvard Square to Park Street in 8 minutes. Since it is Christmas, be sure you see The Commons all lit up for the holidays. If you walk The Freedom Trail and time it to end up there as it gets dark you can see it. Harvard Square in Cambridge: right in the middle of Harvard University which is the home of several great museums. Dinosaurs, minerals jewels, the Glass Flowers (do not miss) anthropology, history. The Fogg Museum. Harvard Semitic Museum at the Divinity School. Harvard Square has a a huge number of bookstores and great eateries, and of course you can wander around the campus. Hop the Subway over to Boston: New England Aquarium, Haymarket, Faneuil Hall (lots of fun with eateries and shops and the site of Patrick Henry's famous speech), up to the North End where you will find the Old North Church and amazing Italian food. Down at the harbor near the aquarium is the USS Constitution Museum, and possibly whale watching tours although it is going to be cold so they may not be going out. There is a Chinatown Boston, Museum of Fine Arts, lots of places to eat seafood and pizza, and old buildings to enjoy. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is just upriver from Harvard, You can stay cheaper out at the end of any of the subway lines and take the Subway in. Link to the MBTA:"  See More

"If you don't mind renting a car, you can also visit Walden Pond right outside of the city and see the old cabin that Ralph Waldo Emerson used to right in."  See More
