Tips and reviews

Here's what Trippy members say about Craters of the Moon National Monument:

"Boise seems to be a bit too far west to be efficient for your route, but Craters of the Moon National Monument is interesting and has some cool caves you can explore."  See More

"Flew to Portland Drove to Boise Went through Craters of the Moon National Monument (otherwordly volcanic landscape and some very cool caves) Spent a night in Sun Valley Passed through Idaho Falls Drove to Jackson (Wyoming) and visited Grand Teton National Park Drove up to Yellowstone National Park Spent a night in Ennis Enjoyed a stay in Bozeman Made the long drive through eastern Montana and spent a night in Medora (adjacent to Theodore Roosevelt National Park) Headed south to Spearfish, Deadwood, Jewel Cave National Monument, Mt Rushmore, and Crazy Horse Memorial -- our home base for these sights was Rapid City (Badlands National Park was very close to Rapid City, but we didn't make it there) Flew home to Los Angeles Our trip was in late April, so most of these sights were not crowded at all."  See More

"I've had good camping experiences in both Craters of the Moon National Monument (which you actually camp on a relatively recent lava flow) and City of Rocks National Reserve (which has crazy rock formations and is popular with climbers)."  See More
