Tips and reviews

Here's what Trippy members say about Timberline Lodge:

"There is plenty to do in Oregon alone, so beyond that, it's completely up to where your interests lie, what your budget is, and how much time you have. Let's start in Portland since that's where you'll most likely fly into. In Portland:  Eat and drink. Portland is known for amazing microbreweries, delicious coffee (look for Stumptown Coffee Roasters) and more foodtrucks than you'll have time for. Go, explore, bring an appetite, and eat your way through the city. Take a cruise on the Willamette River with Willamette River Boat Tours or another boat company. There are several that take off from the Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park. If you want tax-free shopping, head to Portland SW 6th & Yamhill where Nordstrom sits on one side and the upscale Pioneer Place sits on the other. Go to Powell's City of Books. It's a local favorite, a true city of books, and they have food and great coffee too. Explore the artsy/foodie area of the Pearl District. It's beautiful, quaint, and has some great food. See the parks on the hill above the city with great views of Mt. Hood. The International Rose Test Garden is a must, but if you like gardens and have time, also explore the Japanese Gardens. Daytrips from Portland: Do a Willamette Valley wine tour. Rent a car or hire a car and explore the vast wineries down the 99W between Newberg and McMinnville (Oregon). Stop at Ponzi Wine Bar and Argyle Winery in Dundee. (."  See More

"Unless you're a skier, then winter is the only time of the year NOT to come to Portland. All the other seasons are beautiful and Portland doesn't get as hot as Nevada, so bring a sweater or jacket because evenings can get chilly, even in the summer. I love staying in the downtown area just because it's so walkable. Peruse the shopping and restaurants near Portland SW 6th & Yamhill, walk down to Tom Mccall waterfront park portland OR and across the historic Hawthorne Bridge. Enjoy the food trucks at 10th and Alder on your way to Powell's Books. (There's a map of foodtrucks here: >"  See More

"Oh I'm so glad you have 5 days! You'll certainly be able to fill them. I'm going to refer you to some answers that I've given to other Portland questions and then give you the clifnotes version below that lists kayaking and hiking areas that are just stunning. ."  See More

"Ok, Lissa has kayaking totally covered and she's right! Kayaking is amazing in Portland with so many rivers running near it or through it. I grew up doing intertubing and white river rafting along the Clackamas River - there are some great areas depending on your skill/adventure level with various grades of rapids and nice easy calms. I usually started near Molalla, Oregon or Clackamas and went from there. Try >"  See More
