Tips and reviews

Here's what Trippy members say about Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella:

"Rachel, driving will definitely give you the option of doing some scenic detours. Having said that, I know Italy pretty well (I have lived in Rome and travel to the country regularly) and I only ever take trains. Rail in Europe (especially in Italy) is very reliable, quick and cheap. Italy's rail company Trenitalia has a very good website with the option to translate to English (click on the UK flag on the top left corner): !"  See More

"Lisa, I am a huge fan of travelling in Italy via train. The rail system is quick and reliable, and the connections from Rome and Florence are excellent. Plus you avoid the horrid in/out traffic of cities. It is absolutely viable to do a day stop in Orvieto especially if you are willing to start your day early. There are regular intercity trains from Roma Termini to Orvieto which should take just over an hour and cost around 10EUR. Once you arrive at the Funicolare di Orvieto (Orvieto Rail Station) you can walk (take a bus) to the nearby funicular that takes visitors up the hill, to the old town. Alternatively, you can get a taxi at the station... although I like the funicular :) Remember also to check out the town's tourist card which gives discounted access to museum etc. It Should be on sale at the train station, look for Carta Orvieto (I think). When you decide that you have had enough of sightseeing, just pop back down on the funicular, to the train station and catch another regular intercity to Florence (Firenze) which should take about 90mins and cost around 20EUR. The rail website for Trenitalia has an English option"  See More

"Other restaurants I really like are: Acqua Al 2 (website), I' Vinaino, Enoteca Fuori Porta (website, particularly for lunch) and Il Santo Bevitore (website) all located between the Bargello, Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella, the Giardino delle Rose and Via Santo Spirito."  See More

"Check out the Florence bus station location (near the Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella) and schedule at www."  See More

"1) Florence's main train station - Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella - is very well connected with Siena, it takes 1 hour and a half to get there (15 minutes more normally, if you have to change the train in Empoli."  See More

"I stayed in Hotel Paris close to Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella and the Duomo."  See More
