What's a reasonable price for getting a taxi from Lijiang (Shuhe old.town specifically) to Qiaotou for the start of the tiger leaping gorge trail?
I've been told numbers ranging from 50rmb per person to 500rmb in total.. So am a bit hewildered!
Secondly I hear that many travellers choose to take the bus from lijiang bus station instead. Whilst we (3 of us) are willing to pay up to 200rmb for the cab, does anyone know the bus timetable in the early morning around 9-10am?
Thanks so much.
I'll be travelling to Yunnan in early April, going through Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and 2 days at Tiger Leaping Gorge.
I've heard all sorts of things from the friends i'm travelling with around the innoculations they're injecting (Rabies, Typhoid, maybe Hep A/B..) and the tablets they're taking (Malaria and the russian roulette of side effects).
I may be going out on a limb here, but is this all rather dramatic when I'm spending 2 days in a 'rural' location (Tiger Leaping Gorge) and staying at decent guesthouses/inns for the rest of the trip? Maybe it's the thought of Yunnan being exotic, or am I being far too lax in my own attitude to health, given my itinerary and April travel date?
any thoughts welcome!
I am wondering if two days in Dali and three days in Lijiang (2 days around Lijiang and one in the old town) are sufficient.
I want to do independent travel to Yunnan and Guizhou. My interests are minority culture and photography.
However, I have not done independent travel in that part of China before and don't know how to tackle the logistics. I have heard that getting around in that part of China is not easy.
I have three weeks and want to cover Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jianshui, and Yueyang Rice Terraces in Yunnan before heading to Huanguoshu Falls, Zhijin Caves, and the Miao and Dong villages aroind Kaili in Guizhou.
If anyone has advice, please let me know.
Will be there for 8 days in December, can anyone suggest interesting places to visit ? Thanks.
I'm going to Yunnan this May/June. Places I'd like to visit are Kunming, Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge. I'm wondering of anyone has any travel advice? Also looking for travel buddies for the trip- will be doing quite a bit of hiking/trekking, I hope.
planning to go back to Yunnan in Jan or Feb for at least 10 days into area with rice fields near Yuanyang or Lao/Viet border. Is it possible to catch direct buses from either Meng La or Jinhong, since I'll enter China from Laos? Or do I have to go somewhere else (Pu'er/Simao?)? Which district is best to use as a base for exploring the area, any place that has bike rental services?
My wife and me intend to travel to Yunnan on September-October. We would like to travel for 6 days to East Yunnan (Luoping-Bamei area). We are looking for a driver+car or a guide+car for this time. We will be on low budget so a simple car with a friendly driver/guide will be enough for us.
From info on the internet, it seems it may snow in Shangrila in November. Are the tourist attractions accessible in that weather?
A friend and I will be going to Yunnan in mid-November for 2 weeks. Besides Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangrila, I hope to be able to go to Yuanyang too. Is 2 weeks enough? Approximately, how many days for each place? Thank you.
I am leaving next week to Kunming-Dali-lIjiang and the itinerary after Lijiang is TLG to Shangrila and back to Lijiang. I think I will not join the tour to Shangrila to but only to Tiger Leaping Gorge the half day morning tour. After that I will go back to Lijiang by myself. Could you please advise any public transport back to Lijiang and for how long ? The group will come bback to Lijiang again after one night in Shangrila.
Can you please help me with the best time to visit southern China eg Guangzhou & Guilin and then South West China in Kunming, Dali & Lijiang. We don'twant to be there at the wettest time of the year nor the coldest.
We will be 2 persons travelling around Yunnan next August (Yuanyang, Dali, Lijinag, Shangrila). As we have only a few days, we will like to prepare the trip in advance. We want to arrange transports and hotels, but not meals and a full day guide, we prefere to be in our own. Does anyone some recommendations for a good travel agent or private car?
I would like to go to dali shangrila in yunnan but do not know how i live in hongkong and would like to go
with a samll group of people can you recommend?
Im gonna be coming from Laos at the beginning of February time which will coincide with Chinse New Year. I was thinking of either getting to Kunming or Dali and basing my self there for the travel difficulties to die down.
However, because of visas the earliest date I can enter is the 1st of February. Should I try then or wait until a few days after CNY? What would be the earliest date of transport?
Also, do you think I would be able to book train travel from Laos a few days a head to try and beat the difficult transport.
Any help would be great
I will be in SE Asia for December and early January and would like to know what the climate, temperatures, rainfall will be like.
We have read that the Torch Festival takes place in Dali and Lijiang in August in 2010.
Does anyone know the exact date? Does this festival worth the visit?
We would like to visit Wase market (near Dali, in the Er Hai lake area).
We have read that it takes place every five days. How could we know in advance the exact day?
We are planning a trip to Yunnan this summer. We are interested in local minorities but we have some questions about the following areas:
* Damenglong, Menghun or Menghai markets, which of these markets are more interesting to see?
* Could you recommened us some Hani, Aka, Bulang, etc. villages in Xishuangbanna but not too touristic?
2.- Lijiang: Could you recommened us a Naxi village not too touristic?
3.- Which are the most interesting villages nearby Er Hai (Dali): Xizhou, Zoucheng, Shaping, Wase, etc.?
Thanks in advance.
Lonely Planet warns regarding altitude sickness in Zhongdian . Could someone refer to this ? I have been to Lijiang before and was not at all disturbed . Could the difference in elevation have such dramatic effect ?
Planning a Yunnan nature trip this coming easter. Below is my draft IT:
Day1: fly directly to Lijiang. visit the old town, take in night scenery
Day2: take a day trip to Dali - is this worth going? the three pagodas and some old towns?
Day 3: spend the day in LiJiang - YuLong mountain, Shuhe old town. Take night bus to ZhongDian OR take early morning bus to ZhongDian
Day 4: arrive ZhongDian (or is this Deqing?) Tiger Leaping Gorge, Potala gardens
Day 5: want to go see the BaiShuiTai, but i dont know how to get here. Pls help!
Day 6-7: Kunming wonders
1) my IT sound feasible? any suggestions to add more scenic spots, and what areas to skip?
2) is zhongdian and deqing two different places? if yes, can we cover both in 2days? special mention to the BaiShuiTai (the calcium pools)
really need your inputs esp point to point travel times between Dali, LiJiang, ZhongDian/Deqing and their respective places of interest.

What I am looking for are ideas that combine cheap with quick. Cheap being most important. I will have time to see the rest of Yunnan and Guangxi afterwards, but am going to rush through to the northern part. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I will be travelling to Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Shangrila next week (3rd week of Oct). Going up to Yulong Mountain will also b part of my itinery. Can anyone kindly advise on the weather in that region currently. I have checked the weather forecast online and it seems to be in the range of a high of 22 degree celcius and a low of 14 degree celcius but I have heard people saying the temperatures are freezing especially in Lijiang and Shangrila. I am in a dilema of what to pack. Winter clothes?
