Hi all, I would like to rent a car in Tromso.
Are there any companies willing to rent to me if my driving licence has been held for less than 1 year? I possess a valid International Driving Permit.
I am open to suggestions, thanks in advance!
I would like tot ask, if there is a lot of snow on the time when i will go to Tromsø (29th of december till the 4th of january). I hope someone with experiences around this time want to response at me.
I will apologise myself for my bad English
We're headed to Norway in late April and have found this to be low season. NL are no longer visible. We still want to go up north if there will still be things to do/see. What are some of the things to do and see in late April (approx. 22nd-26th April).
I am staying in Tromso for a few days at the end of February and have hired a car to explore the surrounding areas. Where is good to visit / what are some good driving routes?
I'm travelling to Tromsø and the lofoten islands in February of this year and I am interested to know what clothing is appropriate.
I plan to wear a heattech thermal base layer, fleece zip up mid layer and parka outer layer with mittens (thermal gloves for photography) and trapper hat (my ears are very sensitive to the cold!
However what about trousers? How many layers are enough to keep warm? I have leg warmers and thick socks but I've read mixed reviews about whether to wear hiking boots or snow boots.
We plan to go hiking / trailing the northern lights / husky sledding (and general off the track exploring for photography) we'll also like to visit museums and the like around town. Any advice would be brilliant.
I'm also vegan so am wondering how available vegetarian options or alternatives are on offer in restaurants or fish places and whether Tromsø has a supermarket close to the town centre where we'll be staying.
(Last but not least, has anyone got experience of good hiking trails with great landscape views that are reachable on foot from the town?)
Thank you in advance :-)
Any ideas and/or contact details would be more than welcome.

Having never been in Norway before, we have these questions. Are there local tour companies or City tour buses to book? What is recommended to see in the area or just a walk through the city? The cruise line offers tours, though we certainly want to consider other local options. All comments & suggestions are greatly appreciated.
investigating a possible trip for next year, end of december 2016 and was wondering if tromso has much of a nighlife? I know it will be dark, but are bars open till at least 10pm? also, the dates we are thinking about, the moon would be in the "new" moon phase--is that too bright to see the Northern lights? I know it depends on nature if we see this or not, and we would book with a company--but I wanted to see if we should even try at all. thanks!
Hi .. Off to Tromso on the 6th Feb. My hols normally consist of euros loaded on a T. Cook card so please excuse my ignorance! Can anyone please advise as to what is the best and cheapest way to pay for things out there? Cash, Visa Debit card, Credit card, etc. Thank you.
Can anyone let me know if there is any public transport for me to catch very the morning flight from Tromso airport to Honningsvage? If not, will there be any taxi in such time, say 0500 AM?
Thank you for your help.
I know it is early though, I am arriving on a Cruise ship in mid June 2015, are taxis available at the harbor and about how long of a drive to the airport? I want to meet a chartered plane. From what I could find on the internet, it is a relatively small airport and not far from the city center though, I could not find the cruise ship harbor location to get an idea on distance. Thanks in advance for all comments.
Does anyone know the approx cost of a taxi from the airport to Clsrion Collection hotel for four with suitcases. Do u have to book or are they freely available. Thanks

No offence to anyone but as I am dark skin and there is a lot of racism episodes going on in Europe lately I always make sure I collect some information about the subject before I travel to places. Is there any area I should avoid? Am I going to be okay travelling around Norway?
Hi. Can you tell me where the bus stops are for the 40 and 42 buses from Tromso airport? Do they run late enough to meet the 23.55 flight from Oslo?
What is the mid March temperature here and kirkenes
Is it possible to drive from Tromso to Trondheim airport in 5 l/2 days? We are taking the ferry from Trondheim to Tromso and are interested in driving back on the inland road. Will this be too rushed and will we be able to stop and do some hiking. We will be traveling at the end of July.
Can anyone recommend the best way to travel to Kvaløya from Tromso. I've seen a bus route but is there much to see close to the bus stop? I'm not sure how confident I am to drive in Tromso. I am going in March for 4 days, is getting a car a good idea?
Any advice would be much apprecaited :)
My first time to Norway and I'm very excited!
Can anyone tell me what clothing to wear in the day/evening in Tromso and also going chasing the Northern Lights please? We are going 8th Feb - 11th Feb 2014. We also want to do dog sledging & the snow mobile. Does anyone know if the restaurants serve meat, fish & chicken (cooked) as my husband eats meat & I only eat fish or chicken. Veg/salad also OK. Thanks.
Hello I'm coming to Tromsø at the end of the month, january 29, and I don't know were I can sleep for free if that is possible of course. please help! thank you!
I am hoping to get your opinion for a trip I am planning in Feb/March. I have two options and would love to hear your views on which you think is more suitable. I'm looking to book this in the next couple of days whilst there's still some availability on tours.
Return flights from UK to Tromso with 5 nights spent in self-catering accommodation. Activities: Northern Lights tours (have managed to find a few recommended companies with availability), Husky sledding and general city exploring.
Flight to Tromso from UK with 3 nights in Tromso (same above activities)
Overnight hurtigruten to Svolvaer - 3 nights in Svolvaer
I'm not fully sure where is best to stay in Lofoten and what activities there are so any advice on that would be great.
how easy is it to get transport to other areas outside tromso and is the transport expensive ?
We are planning on going to Tromso for seeing the NL. We are NOT good and dedicated fotographers, on our "normal" trips we just take simple fotos as a souvenir with a simple digital camera. So, when (and if) we are going to see the Lights, we'll probably just want to look, and stare, and look more ... However, a few fotos would be nice to have this documented!
Can anybody advise us with what kind of camera we can get by without spending a fortune on equipment and weeks of learning?
Thanks a lot!
We are going to Tromso in the end of february / beginning of march. We live in Spain and never make it further north tan Hamburg, so we probably have to face buying a lot of warm clothing we'll never need again! Having learnt that most of the businesses that take tourists on "Northern Light Chases" provide extra warm clothes & even boots, there remains the question:
What do people wear for just walking around in the city? Or, for taking a bus to somewhere else, or a ferry ... etc etc. For instance. are warm shoes with warm socks enough, or does it have to be moon boots? Pants, coats?
I'd be really grateful for some advice!
Hi everybody, I'm going to Tromso this winter and I was wondering if it's possible to chase the northern lights by car. I'm going a programmed tour one night, but I'd like to try to catch the aurora borealis on my own, using a rented car. Is it safe or may I have some problems such as battery freezing?
