Thank you in advance!

We will staying in Trieste for 3 nights in September 2013 and looking for recommendations for accommodation. We are wanting a double room close to the train station as we will be arriving and departing by train. It doesn't have to be fancy, just neat and clean - as we intend to be out most of the time - preferably with our own ensuite bathroom. Any advice on hotels and on Trieste itself would be most appreciated.
I am going to be in Trieste for a long weekend (Friday to Monday) in late June. Planning on sightseeing Trieste on Friday, and a day-trip each to Slovenia (Ljubljana and Postojna) and Croatia (Pula and Rovinj) on Sat and Sun, before making my way to Venice for an evening flight home on Monday. Have noticed that public transportation to Slo/Cro is tricky on the weekends. Am I being realistic here? Looking forward to your wiser ides!
Hi! I am new to the site and will be going to Italy for the first time at the end of June. I plan on spending a few days in Venice before making my way over to Portoroz, Slovenia. What is the best way to get to Portoroz? I have read that I can take a train from Venice to Trieste and then a bus from Trieste to Portoroz, but how easy is this and how long will the whole trip take? Will it matter if I am traveling on Saturday? Being that this is a higher tourist time, should I buy train/ bus tickets in advance?
Thanks so much for your help!

We will hire a car and travel around Slovenia. I notice that Trieste is very nearby Divaca, Skojcan caves (which we are going to visit) and we very much like to go to visit Trieste as well. Can any VT member advise me which international border check-points should I pass through (as it seems on the map that there are different routes between the 2 cities) and are the check-points opened 24 hours? We intend to depart from Ljubljana and visit Skojcan Caves and Trieste and return to Ljubljana within the same day. Is my schedule feasible and is it too tight? Any advice/information is welcomed.
What are the bus/train options to travel from Trieste to Rijeka? Is there much to see in Rijeka in January on a day trip. Is it worthwhile staying in Rijeka for the night? Cheers.
