i am looking to live in tignes for 3 months next winter. the problem is all the web sites which deal with this seem to charge a fortune and stick you in chalets with another 12 people. ideally i am looking for a flat share with a couple of people. anybody got any ideas where to start looking. i would prefer to have accomodatin sorted before i land in france! would be grateful of any advice. thanks.
You could try Gites de France at gites-de-france.fr/eng/index... and see if they have anything available. Unfortunately this is prime skiing season in a prime skiing area so accomodations will be expensive. You might telephone the local tourist office and see if they can give you advice. I know if you show up in the tourist office they will help you find a room, so I'm assuming they will have information available to help if you telephone them. If you're going for the skiing, call the ski resort and see if they have any workers looking for a roommate. Good luck.
Welcome to life in a ski resort. Accomdations are in short supply, expensive and substandard unless you have the money to pay for real luxury. The ideal is to be able to go out there a couple of months in advance and search the bars/cafes/mairie/local hangouts for message boards advertising people looking for roommates or offering places for rent. Also speak to everyone you meet in the town including restaurant workers etc. asking if they know of any avaialble housing - you will be surprised how far word of mouth can get you. If you are going to be working for a ski company see if they can try to hook you up with others also looking. Also try www.natives.co.uk which is an on-line seasonaires support network with a lot of contacts and information on French ski resorts.
