Planning a Possible Road Trip  (7 Answers)

Need to get from Fort Worth to SE Arizona early March with probably 1 overnight stop but want to break up the driving into maybe approx. 4 hour stretches. Any suggestions for "must see" locations? Would prefer to avoid too much Interstate driving but conscious I am travelling alone so not wishing to go too far off track. My preferences are for scenery, science and nature as opposed to cities and shopping. Clean budget motel about half way?

Temperature in Texas/South-East in the spring?  (16 Answers)

Hi there! I am planning my second road trip in the US, which me and my travel buddy are thinking about doing either in march/april or in april/may this year (I am doing all the planing, he kinda just tags along and trusts my decision). So I am wondering which one of these two alternatives are the best to do, considering the temperatures and the amount of tourist? (We are not too fund of a bunch of tourists..).

I would prefer it not to be too hot (I've heard there's quite a bit of humidity in the south), but we don't want to be walking around in jackets and sweaters either.

The route we are planing on doing is starting in Houston, TX, then drive through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, along the Florida Coastline down to Orlando, before taking the coastal road up to Myrtle Beach, where we'll be spending 3-4+ nights before hopping on the plane and head back home again.

Also tips about do's and don'ts will be welcomed! The route isn't set in stone yet, changes can be done if any one has got any super tips about another/the route, it will be considered as well!

Thanks!

Mexico & USA - How much fuzz?  (17 Answers)

Hi, I am an European and an "America-virgin", who is planning a two week vacation to the US with my buddy this summer. The plan is to land in Houston, and rent a car to drive to LA. On the Google Maps-route, numero uno, the route goes through El Paso, TX, which again is fairly close to Juárez, Mexico. And so I am wondering how much hazzle it would be to stop by Juárez? Are there forms to fill, traffic jams etc. and are there any hazzle to get back in the US for us? And is it worth it on such a short vacation?

It would be awesome to take a stop in Mexico, since I haven't been there yet, and I love to explore new pages of the world-book.

And if anybody wants to throw in any suggestions to the rest of the trip, the route is not locked and the tickets hasn't been purchased yet, so feel free to give us some suggestions!

PS. If anybody wants some couch-crashers this summer or wants to hang out, show off your town or what ever, we are pretty down for meeting new people!

In advance - thanks :-)

3 week vacation from 19th June to 10th July  (4 Answers)

My partner and I are in our thirties and will arrive in Dallas on the 19th June, we are looking to hire a car and travel from Dallas to Memphis, from Memphis, to Nashville, from Nashville to New Orleans to Houston, houston to San antonio, from San antonio to big bend and from big bend to Fort Worth ....heading back to Dallas on the 10th for our flight back to Scotland.
At present I haven't booked any hotels or decided how long to stay in each Area or if this will be our final plan but it's a start.....what I was hoping you guys could do was help me with things to do, is there anywhere we should be going that we have missed or should miss out, how many days in each area, nice restaurants and bars and finally the best place to be for the 4th July celebrations.
We want to make sure we see the most in our trip but also enjoy every moment so thanks for your help.

A 14 day road trip through Texas from El Paso to the Gulf coast  (2 Answers)

Hi there,
I got the possibility to travel 14 days in Texas. I will arrrive the 24th of February and leave again from Austin the 11th of March. After reading quite a lot, I decided to go to the area around El Paso and start at Guadalupe National Park and Big Bend National Park. My idea is to follow more or less the mexican boarder and end up at the Gulf coast and heading back to Austin. Does anybody have any Texas road trip experience in here and places, they would like to share with me? I am interested in scenic drives, hiking, rafting and maybe end the trip on the Gulf coast beaches.
Instead of driving from Austin to El Paso I am considering flying to El Paso and start my road trip there to save time.
Thank you :-)
Christian

Where to visit?  (5 Answers)

We're going to be traveling back to Louisiana after visiting a friend near San Antonio. My wife, I, and my 2 year old want to spend an extra day or two either there in San Antonio or somewhere else along the way back to Louisiana. Any ideas? Houston? Beaumont? San Antonio? Or somewhere else?

Thanks

Ice storm in Texas  (10 Answers)

Please note that North Texas is under an ice storm. This type of storm causes ice to form on trees, weighing them down, breaking them, and bringing down power lines.

There are currently neatly 200,000 customers without power. 40% of flights at DFW have already been cancelled, and more will follow.

Assime nationwide disruption of air travel today in the US.

Texas road trip advice-- Dallas/Houston/San Antonio  (2 Answers)

My girlfriend and I are flying into Dallas 11-6 and out 11-12 for no reason other than an adventurous roadtrip. I have some hilton points and have mapped out a route that will keep us in Dallas the first night, Houston/Galveston the next two nights, San Antonio/Austin the following two nights, followed by one last night in Dallas. First of all, I've been reading many forums in which the San Antonio/Austin area is praised the most. I'm considering skipping Houston/Galveston (I've been there even though she hasn't). We're 31 and 30 and are looking for some adventure - natural swimming holes, maybe the beach (if it isn't too cold), bike riding, canoeing, maybe tubing down one of the rivers, hiking, and plenty of eating. A few things we already heard we must see are the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Hill Country, the River Walk in San Antonio, 6th Street in Austin. We like to try new things and appreciate good food so please send us your recommendations. Which of these cities could we see via bicycle?

San Antonio/Austin or Surrounding Towns??  (5 Answers)

Hi,

My sister and I are planning a trip across the States in July and Texas is a must see for us.

We fly into Austin, have 3 days to explore and then fly out of San Antonio. We know we haven't got much time, but were just wondering if anybody had any advice on whether we should focus out trip in only Austin & San Antonio or hire a car for 2 days and explore the little towns in-between?

Also, we are are in Texas for the 4th July, any advice about where best to celebrate this day between the 2 cities or the smaller surrounding towns?

We would really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

road trip, Dallas, Galveston, New Orleans, what to do?  (1 Answer)

Well it is my spring break and a friend and I (guy and a girl) would love to do a small road trip, from Dallas to Galveston Beach, spend about 2 or 3 days there then head toward New Orleans, I have been to Galveston many times but never for the reasons we are going now. We want to have fun, enjoy night life, bars, restaurants, sights, nothing too family friendly, for example no museums or national parks that have kids, we want more of the young 20's side of the experience. Also what places are a must in New Orleans or Baton Rouge Louisiana.

the trip would be from Monday to Saturday.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated any advice for read trips as well!

thank you!

Working Ranch Stay  (5 Answers)

Searching for a recommendation .

Considering a ranch stay either in Texas's Hill Country or the far west, Big Bend, Alpine area.

My budget does not extend to luxury. As a single traveller I would be far more happy with a bunkhouse stay.

The idea is to have the opportunity to help out, be able to photograph the working ranch , hiking opportunities. Never been on a horse in my life so novice riding lessons. Enjoys shooting sports so perhaps an opportunity to shoot would be great.

So any recommendations for a working ranch, basic rather than a resort experience.

Thanks

Can someone help, please?  (8 Answers)

This isn´t actually about traveeling, but I think it´s o.k. if I ask.
We just had sad news from my aunt living in Duncanville, Texas. I was wondering could it be possible to order her flowers. I found this page with some choises low enough for our budget, but am I stupid or what, when I don´t find how should I pay, if I order? I don´t like paypal, but I didn´t find any info if I could pay with credit card. (Finnish Master card, or my parents Finnish VISA,I say Finnish because in Holland we found out that some places don´t accept foreign cards, even if they are VISA or Master).
This is the page i found:

Any other tips or things to do would also be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

holiday information  (5 Answers)

hello, would anyone be kind enough to give me some recommendations for our upcoming holiday to texas next october. Were both early 40's with no children we will hire a car and like to go out and do tourist stuff in the day then stay somewhere were we can walk out for a meal and a drink at night, we prefer your more casual type of restaurants rather than really posh ones. We went to california this year and really loved santa barbara so anywhere like that would be really nice. Weve got guide books and are possible looking at Fort Worth and Galveston at the moment even though these are more city destinations, we are looking at doing 3 locations 2 x 5 days and 1 x 4 days. And hope to fly in and out of different airports so we can see a bit more. Any information would be much appreciated.

are areas near mexican border safe?  (6 Answers)

Hi, I'm planning a trip around Texas. Everything seems fine. I will land in San Antonio, rent a car and then drive through the entire state to see main cities (Houston, Dallas, Austin, etc.) as well as National Parks (Guadalupe and Big Bend).
I'm just a little bit scared about driving long the road that coasts the mexican border (more specificallly, from Presidio to Study Butte-Terlingua). I've heard about narcos and criminality and I've read an article which says that the areas around the mexican border are very unsafe for visitors. Is it true?
I think this is exaggerated, and still I put the question: do I have to observe particular safety measures when I will be near the border?
Thank you for your answers.
