I will be making a round trip with a few mates to Taiwan, Japan then Korea. Is it easy to find free wifi there on the go? It will be a kinda spontaneous trip and we plan on leaving the city to expore with GPS. I don't want to get SIM cards as I mainly communicate through twitter or skype anyway. Would it be safer to rent routers with unlimited wifi we can split. There are so many router rental sites to choose from in each country, anyone has good recommendations in terms of coverage/ price? Or better yet, somewhere i can settle all at once in Aussie? Haha thanks!
Hi, I'm visiting a friend in Zhongli for one week at the end of March. Trouble is, she's very busy and can't be my guide and I can't speak Chinese! Are there any parks, museums, arts venues or general places of interest to explore? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!!
My friend and I are planning a 2-week graduation trip to Taiwan in March. We've been to Taipei previously, and would like to explore other regions of Taiwan this time round. However, we're unsure of the route we should take and which regions are more popular? Any suggestions??? :-)
P.S.: We hope to input Yilan as one of the destinations, and would like to stay in Taipei for about 3 days before the end of our trip. Oh, and our flight is to Taipei!
Thanks so much in advance!!!!
hello, does any one know hotel, or hostel chepa below 1000 dollar taiwan near taoyuan city? tq
We want to make a private tour for 20 days around Taiwan. We want to know if it's possible making this Tour travelling by train and car (of a combination of both). If yes, does anyone know a travelagency who can arrange this for us.
Han & Monique
We are going back to beautiful Taiwan again! This time we are going to be in Taipei for the Chinese New Year ( February 2016)
Any suggestions to what might be fun to see or do? We will be getting around using the MRT so any activities near any of the stations would be fantastic.
I am flying into Kaohsiung, but want to visit Taipei part of my week long trip. Best way would be via train? And is it better to purchase a train ticket online prior to arrival, or would it be fine to get it at the station the day off? I ask because I am not sure what day/time I will try to go to Taipei.
Also, if there are any suggestions for tourist activities in Kaohsiung and Taipei, I would greatly appreciate it! It is my first time traveling to Taiwan and I am open to seeing/doing many things in both places! TIA! :)
(New to VirtualTourist. Posted this question but can't find it. Sorry, am re-posting.)
- TW in August. 7 days. With 2 kids in tow.
- Would like to see TW from tip-to-tip, where possible time allowing.
Noticed that airfare to Kaoshiung is cheaper than to Taipei. Is it a good idea to be based in Kaoshiung and do the day trips to the tip and mid of TW?
All ideas welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.
What is the worst thing they can do to me at the airports if I take two packs of cigarettes with me in Carry on bag? I'm 17 years old.
Don't tell me to stop smoking, just answer my question please. Thanks in advance
Hi all, we are visiting Taiwan in the month of July and would like to know some mid-range hotel recommendation for family of 6. Beside that, we also need recommendation on on ground tour around places away from taiwan like Alishan and Sun Moon Lake. Or is it cheaper to hire a driver to bring us around?
Any members who are familiar with Taiwan pls suggest itinenary that I could follow. I want to see Taipei,Juifen, Taichung,Sun Moon Lake area, Cingching farm and others that I cud make it to. I wil be arriving on 22mar around 3pm. Was thinking of getting a driver while I'm travelling to Sun Moon Lake and cingching area for 2-3days frm Taichung. Any recommendations--hope not too expensive. Hear from you soon. Thanks.
Hello, I want to go from taipei to Kenting by High Speed Train, and i wanted to know if i should book it in advance or if I can just go to the station and buy the ticket.
I already booked hotel at Chiayi city and Fenqihu, one night each. And return to Ximendin after Fenqihu stay.
Please guide me particulars of public transport time to and back for both places.
what is the public transport from Taipei to Chiayi
My daughter and I will be traveling to Taiwan in January 2015. We understand that we may be able to hire a cab or taxi driver for a day to use as a tour guide. We have several places that we are interested in seeing. For example Taroko Gorge Sun Moon Lake, Alishan Mountains and Juifen.
Have any of you ever done this before? We're looking for someone that is a safe driver, reasonable in cost, and is fluent in English. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
After your help in my last post I think I´ve decided my itinerary. :-)
Something like this, what do you think?
Day 1: I will arrive in the afternoon after a long flight from Europe
Day 2: Explore Taipei
Day 3: Explore Taipei
Day 4: Will leave Taipei before lunch, heading to Hualien. In the afternoon I will explore Hualien and the coastline
Day 5: Taroko Gorge
Day 6: Back to Taipei. Maybe in the afternoon if there is more to explore in Hualien
Day 7: Explore Taipei
Day 8: Day trip to northern Taiwan, Ruifang -> Jiufen -> Keelung
Day 9: ??
Day 10: ??
Day 11: Back to Taipei, will leave Taiwan late in the evening
My last concern is day 9 and 10. I have three places I would really like to visit, but I don´t want it to be to stressfull. Shall I take the high speed train to Kaohsiung and stay one night? Or go to Sun Moon Lake or Alishan and see the sunrise? I saw some pictures from the sunrise and it was beautiful! :-)
I would really like to see all three places, but I can´t decide. I think Kaohsiung is the easiest and fastest destination, but is it worth it? Or should I stay in Taipei instead? I´m afraid I have to little time in Taipei.
Another question. I´m a vegetarian and I know it will be hard. I´ve been in China and Japan a couple of times and I know it´s hard to find vegetarian food. :-)
But, if I find a restaurant in with description vegetarian. Is it the same definition as in the western?
Thank you for your help!
Hi, I'm planning a 11 Days round the Island trip.
Place that i would like to cover :
Day 1 & 2 : Jioufen
Day 3 & 4 : Wulai, Wulai Falls & Hot Spring
Day 5 : Hualien City
Day 6 : Taroko Gorge
Day 7 & 8 : Alishan
Day 9, 10 & 11 : Taipei, Keelung & Dansui
Need help, anyone who can advise is the above route make sense, in terms of transportation & day spend for each location.
And also, I will be going early April, is there any cherry blossom can be seen during this season ? If yes, where would be the best place to go ?
Thanks in advance.
I´m going to Taiwan in mid November and need some feedback on my itinerary and help with some questions.
I start in Taipei, will stay at a hotel close to Main Staion which will give me great opportunities for communications. Is 4-5 days in Taipei enough?
After discoverieng Taipei I will do a couple of day trips outside the city. My suggestion is one day to Ruifang -> Jiufen -> Keelung and one day to Beitou Hot Springs. Is there anything else I can´t miss and should prioritize in northern Taiwan? What about Yehliu? Shifen?
Than I will take e train to Hualien where I will stay for two(?) nights and make a day trip to Taroko National Park. But after what I read it´s hard to visit tha park alone because the size of the park and the spots are not next to each other so you need a vehicle for transportation.
I don´t want to participate in a tour group, I would prefere shouttle bus with hop on hop off so I can take my time. Is there any options like that? Is there any local bus between the spots?
If a tour group is the only option, anything to recommend?
I´m travelling alone so I don´t want to hire a driver if I don´t have to
I would also like to see Sun Moon Lake but what I understand it is hard to cross the island so I have to take the train back to Taipei and then down to Taichung Station and then bus!?
Or Kaohsiung instead of SML? Or should I go to the south and the return north on the west coast?
Is there anything I "can´t miss" on the west coast while I´m there? After Taipei and Hualin/Taroko I think I have 1-2 days for the west coast. Shall I go to Sun Moon Lake, or is there anything else?
Or should I stay in the north after Taroko, because I don´t want to rush?
Please, give me some feedback! I´m soaking everything in :-) and I wan´t to maximize my trip with experience, but no rush...
Where in Taipei should I stay? Which area do you recommend?
Hi all. I will be in Taiwan for 8 full days early November with my wife and almost 12 month old babies. We want to see at least a couple different parts of Taiwan and was hoping to get some itinerary advice. Any and and advice is appreciated,
ex: Hotels, Cities, Transportation, Activities, Must see sights, etc.
Thanks in advance!
I´m thinking of going to Taiwan in mid November and I have a couple of questions.
I´m travelling on my own, is it a hard country for a lonely traveller? I´ve been in both Japan and China before so I´m not completely lost in eastern Asia ;-)
Is it easy to travelling around the island? Is the train and bus network easy to use and will I get to most of the tourist attractions by train/bus?
Is November a good month to visit Taiwan?
I was thinking about one week in Taiwan, then going to an island with nice beaches for some relaxing. Is there any beautiful islands of the Philippines close to Taiwan?
Im familiar with agoda but I just heard booking.com & expedia.com. I am comparing prices using Tripadvisor and expedia.com is offering lower prices than agoda. Im not familiar with this site hence the question.
I am trying to book a hotel in Taipei (main inn taipei) and in Hualien (marshal hotel). Both of these hotels have all rooms fully booked on their websites but with availble rooms in agoda, booking and expedia (not sure how did it happen). We are shelling out a lot of money and we just want to know if the money is going to the right place. I tried to google this but im gwtting mixed reviews. Since people here are expert travelers, i want to hear from you. Thanks in advance!
I need to know :
1). what area to stay in Taipei, Taichung and Kaoshiung.
The criteria area where I like is : a). in shopping (mall) area, for instance similar area like in myeongdong korea or pratunam in Bangkok b). near to train station/MRT
2) any suggestion for hotel 1 or 2 star which is clean and near shopping complex and train station in each city of Taipei, Taichung and Kaoshiung
Thanks so much
I need suggestions regarding clean, safe but cheap accommodations for 2 people in Hualien and Cing Jing. Maybe in a strategic location as near restaurants and night markets. It is both for overnight stay only.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance!
My bf and I will be going to Taiwan on Oct30-Nov04 this year. I have a few questions hope someone can help me out plan our trip.
1) We are currently looking at hotels in Taipei (Dahshin hotel & Main Inn Taipei). Can someone recommend other cheap but clean hotels near the Taipei Main station?
2) Since we are to go on late Oct and early Nov, what is the weather like in Taiwan at that time? Will it be really cold and rainy? Im a bit of a 'fashionista' and really like to wear short shorts, sleeveless and dresses during trips. Will this be adviseable or should I wear leggings and pants instead?
3) I already found a tour guide for our Jiufen, Yehliu park and Taroko gorge trip but would like to explore Kenting and Kaohsiung as well. We are only alloting 2days for this. Im having 2nd thoughts bec the train ticket to Kaohsiung is expensive (ntd 1500 per way). Is there any other transpo alternative to this places?
4) If we are to stay at the hotels stated above, how are we going to these hotels from Taoyuan Intl airport? We will be arriving a bit late, 12:40am on oct30.
Is it still safe to commute at this hour?
Hope someone could help me. Thanks in advance!
