Hello! I'm planning my summer vacation and I found some interesting suggestions for horse-riding in Switzerland. However its duration is 3 days and I need to spend other 5 days doing something. My idea was to go for skiing in Zermatt but I have doubts if skilifts are openned in that time (it should be the first week of June). According to website of Zermatt the season 2012 was closed in the mid of May and re-openned on June,30th. So, my question is if skilifts are openned somewhere in the beginning of June?
Thanks a lot!
Check the web pages again:
If you select link "skiing all through summer" you find some more info.
Check our Zermatt pages also, might give some idea how to spend you 5 additional days.
Generally the skiing season ends about the end of April and the mountain hotels close for a month to 6 weeks ready for the Summer season. A few mountain hotels do stay open for general visitors but it is more common in the lower altitude towns. I know from being in the Swiss Alps in early June plant hunting that *usually* the snow has mostly cleared but you can get short spells of quite heavy snow. None of it is much use for skiing though as it is far too unreliable.
There is the chance to ski on the Jungfrau on the glacier all summer but that's a very expensive way to go skiing, albeit a wonderful place to visit.
You could go skiing on the glacier beginning of June and use the chairlift Furggsattel Gletscherbahn 09:00-14:00 from 06.05.2013 to 14.06.2013.
