A question about Laxfield and the B117  (10 Answers)

Visiting eastern Suffolk next summer on what is mainly a churchcrawling holiday (I know the west). I have found (but not booked) a cottage in Laxfield. It is just off but near the B117, which runs right through the village. Does anyone know Laxfield and/or the B117 well enough to venture an opinion of the wisdom of this idea? I've stayed in a village with a busy road through it, and it was a very unpleasant experience, but it was an A road. There are other options, but this seems like the most "strategic" base for my purposes. (I had settled on Fressingfield, but the cottage was just yanked off the market). Many thanks for any first-hand knowledge. --Spencer

Suffolk, the final frontier  (11 Answers)

Next month I'll be taking a short break to Suffolk and it will be the final county in England for me and then I can say I have been to every one.
I don't really know how I've managed to avoid Suffolk in all my years of travelling but there you are. I'm sure Suffolk is a wonderful county as I'm soon to discover.
So what would you recommend I see?
From my base in Stowmarket I will visit Bury St Edmunds, Southwold and the village of Eye as they all look interesting places but are there any hidden gems I should know about?

A rainy day: in Bury St Edmunds or Saffron Walden (I know, not Suffolk)?  (9 Answers)

Hi Always-Helpful VT Forum,

I have two days left in Suffolk, based in Lavenham, before moving on to Norfolk (yes, it's the E.A. grand tour for a New Yorker). Tomorrow (Sat.) promises to be rainy. I'm saving a 'Constable country drive' for Sunday, which looks like the better day (weather). CRISIS: What to do with the rainy day? I imagined I would visit both Bury (so close) and Saffron Walden (in Essex, but not too far away). Now it seems like either/or. Any advice about the better rainy-day-choice?

MANY thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Spencer

We are moving to Suffolk this summer from Germmay.

Any recommendations on where to live?

We are especially looking for a town with a good soccer program for our 9y/o.

Wisset, England  (4 Answers)

I would like to visit Wisset, in Suffolk, England, where my family originated. However, I can't seem to find it. Was Wisset a town and does it still exist? I would appreciate any help! Thanks!
