I'm going to be entering at Naxalbari after three months of travel in Nepal. I'll be going to mirik and Darjeeling first, and then make my way down to the beaches!I'll be traveling through WB during the month of may. I'm not well informed about places to go to in WB, and I'm new to virtual tourist, it's a great site and a good travel source. I'm a sucker for historical places, nature, and food! WB is a beautiful state, and has much to offer in these matters :)
I'd really like for you to suggest really worthwhile places to go to between siliguri and Calcutta. I stay away from noisy polluted places, as I suppose any nature lover would. Riversides for a cool bath, waterfalls, national parks to stay in and around, forts and palaces, places of historical significance, architecture, and not to forget food! I work up a good appetite by cycling, and I want try some local delicacies!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance
Will be arriving in Kolkata October 26, yes just after the festival, and wondering about some good guesthouses or B & B's to stay at? Probably will be there for a few days before heading to Darjeeling. Was wondering also about Bodh Gaya if it's on the way to Darjeeling. Might like to stop there for a day to see it. Any suggestions?
I will be travelling to Bhutan from Bangladesh by road.
I need to know the following info.:
1. Is there any bus service available from Changrabandha to Myanaguri & what could be appx. fare?
2. If not, then what could be appx. taxi fare (non luxurious) from Changrabandha to Myanaguri?
3. Bus fare from Mynaguri to Jaigaon.
Appreciate for the help.
Hi. Just wondered if anyone would give me an update as to whats happening in Darjeeling at present. We are due to visit at the beginning of April for a couple of weeks and not sure whether to cancel everything and make new bookings elsewhere.
We (myself, husband and 10 year old son)are hoping to visit Darjeeling/ Kalimpong/ Chalsa in April. However, I am a bit concerned about the current unsettled state up there. If there is a strike while we are there, is it only Darjeeling that is affected or will it affect Kalimpong and the plains too? Will we able to travel around? I understand there is an election in May - do you think this means the situation will get worse nearere the time?
We are flying into Calcutta and I am not sure whether we should cancel our train ticket to NJP and head down to Puri instead (or across to Varanasi). Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks - Berni.
I am travelling to India in August and would like to visit Darjeeling and Sikkim to do some trekking around (in particular, the Singalila Trek). Is it possible and worthwile to visit and trek this aerea in August in spite of the monsoon?

We are intending to come and stay in northern India for about 9 months from September 07 onwards. We have 2 small children aged 3 and 1. We are looking for suggestions as to where might be a good place to stay for this period. We would like somewhere that is not very touristy but is not completley off the beaten track either. Trips to other interesting places that aren't days and days away would also be a good idea and if at all possible a place with lots of children and things for them to do.
Any suggestions welcome?
Im traveling to India in April and am going to be spending a few days around Darjeeling. Does anyone have any recommendations for that area and around? Also, I was thinking about heading into Nepal for a day or two. Any suggestions about crossing the border and possibly flights to Kathmandu?

This time I go to India, I am planning to make a short trip for couple of days to Bakkhali-Frasergunj. Can anyone please tell me whether it is possible to cover the entire stretch from Kolkata to Frasergunj in a car? I read somewhere that there is a small creek named Hatania-Doania which needs to be crossed. Now if there is no bridge out there, how is it possible for a car to cross that???
One more thing, can anyone give me an estimate of the cost to hire a car for those two days? How do they charge? Is it based on distance, or is it a fixed cost? It will be really nice if someone can provide me with some phone no.s where I can call from here to book a cab, so that I can go there directly from the airport.
what would be the usual fare by Tata Sumo and/or Maruti van from New Jalpaiguri station to Mall, Darjeeling? Do I need to book/arrange before our trip, or this transportation is available easily at the station. Thanks for your help, we are travelling in mid-October.

Kolkata to Delhi - How long is the train ride? Overnight?
This maybe the usual stupid American question- but I will be visiting Calcutta early January and my plane arrives at 1 am. I will be travelling from the airport to Baligunge. I have been warned by freinds that roads are not safe and to take a prepaid cab. Is it really that dangerous. Would I lose all my luggage? How bad is it? Just a poor foreigner but have ben told that is the primary target, is that true- please tell

Can you help? I would like to get the e-mail of the Calcutta Tourist Information Center and/or Sunderbans Launch Association in Calcutta. Wehave been to Northern India and West Bengal in 1997 and now we are going back to see some of the places we didn't have time for during the 7 weeks I visited last time. If you have been to Suderbans Tiger Reserve and can share some information on your experience and the Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge, it would be greatly appreciated ? traveling with aloha the coconut wireless
