Rajasthan itinerary for a week  (8 Answers)

Hi, Am planning a small trip to Rajasthan and have a week, so what according to you should be my itinerary. Have managed to draw up following- Day 1 - arrive at Jaipur Day 2 - Jaipur sight seeing Day 3 - Depart from Jaipur to Ranthambore Day 4 - Visit Ranthambore National Park and if possible, leave Ranthambore for Jaisalmer. Day 5 - Reach Jaisalmer Day 6 - Jaisalmer sight seeing and departure. I know I am missing many places like Udaipur, Puskar, the temple with rats etc but I want to use Jaipur as base and Ranthambore is a must visit, am open to suggestions. Further does anyone know of Bhangar? Legend says its haunted - don't know if its true or just a way to promote tourism but a casual search gives you many 'stories'. Is it worth a visit?

Holi Festival 2013 in Jodhpur  (2 Answers)

Hey guys,

I will be in India next week and I plan to be in Jodhpur to spend the Holi Festival there. Someone told me that Jodhpur's Holi Festival celebrations are really great and authentic! But I'd like to hear some recommendations from locals and also travellers who had the opportunity to spend the Holi Festival in Jodhpur in the past.

So, can someone please tell me where is the best place to go to in Jodhpur on the day of the Holi? Are there any organised events on the day? And considering we are non-Indians do you think safety is an issue? Finally, is Holi in Jodhpur celebrated only on the 27th March? or else there'll be celebrations also on the 26thMarch and maybe the day after, like it's done in Jaipur?

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

Kev

Planning a trip starting from jaipur ending at ahmedabad.  (7 Answers)

Hi, I'm have planned a trip starting at Jaipur(Coming from Delhi) and ending at Udaipur (going back from Ahmadabad) for around 8 days from 3rd to 11th march. We are 3 friends(all guys) intending to cover jaipur.jodhpur, jaisalmer and udaipur in the complete trip. My biggest concern is whether it is safe to travel at this point of time as Rajasthan is highly affected by Swine flu. And if Yes, which route is best to cover all these places and mode of transportation and accommodation. We can also think of making it a bike trip if we can have someone experienced with us and can get bikes(preferably Royal Enfield) for rent.

Thanks Satbir

Rajasthan  (12 Answers)

Hey - After a bit of advice really. We're off to India in September and first place to explore is Rajasthan (coming over from Delhi). We've got a rudimentary route so would like to know;

a) best way of travel
b) any places we should visit in, or around the area’s we plan on stopping
c) any places to avoid
d) any other advice

Our stops are;

Ranthambhore National Park
Pushkar
Udaipur (and Ranakpur)
Jodhpur
Jaisalmer

We’ve given ourselves about a month in Rajasthan. After this, we’d like to go north towards the Himalayas and then work our way east, so any tips, best way to get there etc.. would be great appreciated!

Thanks,
Steph & Ant

Holi Festival 2013: When & Where?  (5 Answers)

Dear All,

Together with a friend of mine, during the last week of March 2013, I will be travelling throughout different places in the beautiful region of Rajhastan. We plan to visit Jaipur and Udaipur for sure, and maybe we will also visit Bundi, Bikaner and/or Jodhpur. And we are really looking forward to attend the Holi Festival in one of these places, as we know this Festival is organised during the time we will be in the region.

At this stage, I will be really grateful if someone can help me out with the following two questions:

(1) Which is maybe the best city/place (from the ones I just mentioned above), to be in during the day/s when the Holi Festival is organised? By best I mean the most cheerful and colourful atmosphere, and best from a cultural and festive aspect. And finally;

(2) When is the exact date or dates when this year's (2013) Holi Festival in India, will be held? If there is more than just one day when the Holi Festival will be held, please let me know also which is the best day to attend then.

In brief, my questions are 'Where and When?!' :)

Thanks a lot guys, any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

We're looking so forward to attend your beautiful land. :)

Have a nice day everybody and all the best!!!

Peace....

Regards,

Kevin

10 days India - Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur (Comments pls! Tq) :)  (15 Answers)

Hi

I am planning a 10 day trip in India and tentatively have in mind the following itinerary:

2 nights in Delhi
1 night in Agra
3 nights in Jaipur
3 nights in Udaipur

Is this a sensible itinerary?

The potential driver whom I was going to engage recommended driving all the way (instead of taking the train). We however felt that we wanted to experience the trains too but were worried that it may be difficult to find a reliable driver when we arrive each new city. What will you all suggest?

We will also need to go back Delhi on our last day to catch our flight. Is it realistic to take a train back from Udaipur or is the distance to far to train?

I wonder too if anyone could advise me if the train tickets should be booked before we arrive India, or will it be too late to do the booking only when we arrive!?

Thank you in advance! :)

Royal Enfield rental  (7 Answers)

Hi,

My girlfriend and I will travel to Delhi next September and we are planning on renting a bike to see Rajasthan.
Can anyone help us by recomending a rental place or some route. We expect to travel 10-12 days throughout the Rajasthan and wish to include Shimla, this one done by train. The thing is, We are not sure that the bike is the perfect mean of transportation, we considered taking the train but then we have to reserved in advance the trip and should have the itinerary all sorted out - wich will be dificult for both of us.
We would like to hear your opinion. The rental bike sites I have encounterd ask for something like 600 euros for the 10-12 days.

Thanks in advance

A sudden trip to jaipur and Jaipur, suggestions please  (13 Answers)

My 14 year old son and I are off to Rajasthan for a week. We have to attend a wedding in Udaipur for two days, but we have the other days to ourselves. We are interested in doing a desert trip, is it ok to do it in the month of April? Or is it too hot then? Any tour companies that you would recommend?
There is so much information on these two places but any suggestions you may have would be appreciated.
We are planning 2 days in Jaipur, 2 days for desert trip, 2 days at the wedding and one day we have kept free to add what ever we may want.
Is this a sensible plan.
Thanks in advance,

Possible Rajsathan itinerary  (2 Answers)

Hi all, We're going to Rajsthan for two weeks next April, and I have the following possible itinerary. I'd like to know is if I'm staying too long in one place, or if I should stay longer in another. It will be in April - when I do know it will be hot, but that's not a problem. As you will see, I'm not putting in Jaipour, Pushkar and Udaipur, as I already spent a few weeks there a couple of years ago. I now want to see another part of Rajathan. I've also included some possible hotels. Anyone have a preference? Here it is:

Day 1: Arrive in Jodhpur by train from Mumbai (early in the morning, so all day left to see the city)
Day 2: Day trip to Ranakpur (3 hours driving each way?)
Day 3: Jodhpur. (Haveli Inn Pal?)
Day 4: Jodhpur - Jaiselmer (we will have a car and driver for the remainder of the trip)
Day 5: Jaiselmer (Gajner Palace or Golden Haveli?)
Day 6: Jaiselmer (overnight desert camp)
Day 7: Jaiselmer - Bikaner
Day 8: Bikaner
Day 9: Bikaner
Day 10: Bikaner - Mandawa (Hotel Shekwati)
Day 11: Mandawa (touring Shekwati villages)
Day 12: Mandawa - Agra (afternoon Taj: this will be a Thursday. I know Fridays it's closed)
Day 13: Agra (morning Red Fort) - Delhi
Day 14: Delhi

I'd REALLY appreciate some feedback! Thanks a lot!

october travel suggestions  (13 Answers)

Hi we are a middle aged couple travelling in October for 21 days. Our rough plan is to arrive at Delhi and travel into Rajasthan by train making our way to Jaisalmer and returning to Delhi by a different route My question is, do we travel by train, bus or with a driver or a combination of all three. We are hoping to visit areas off the usual triangle route and do our own thing.

Is this realistic or too ambitious

thanks

Trip to Rajasthan  (5 Answers)

Hi,

It has been over 20 years since I was last in India (where I spent 2 months), but have never seen Rajasthan. Will be there from Dec 4-19th, 2011.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced but GOOD travel company for Rajasthan that can provide a private guide and driver that can see not only the main tourist sites but also do off-the-beaten path activities? They should be able to arrange all land arrangements once we land in India. I am not interested in buses...I am willing to pay the difference to use my time efficiently.

2) What places are worth seeing in Rajasthan other than Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Rathambone National Park?

3) If I am in Rajasthan from December 4th to 19th do I have enough time to also visit Amritsar and Srinagar? Is it worth it? Is it pushing too much?

Thanks for your help.

Nathan

Out of the way Rajasthan  (18 Answers)

I am at present trying to organise a 2.5 week trip to Rajasthan from Delhi in October and will visiting the normal tourist cities like Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer etc. I would very much like to see interesting, off the beaten track/country places/villages to include on the trip. We will be staying 2/3 nights most places. Are there any places other than above which we shouldn't miss. Also, we will be taking a driver for the trip and I am wondering where is a good/convenient area to stay in Delhi, firstly for easy access to/from Airport and then on to first stop Agra and arriving back after the trip for airport. I would be grateful for any advice.

Is it better to book a driver from India or from UK  (9 Answers)

Any suggestions on whether it is cheaper to book a driver from India or from the Uk for travel within Rajasthan?

I have a quote for 1850 per day. But am thinking it would probably work out cheaper to book from there.

Should I go with recommendations, or should this not be a big concern?
