We are planning a trip in Punjab, but I am not sure it will be interesting enough for foreigners. we are a couple over 50's and we have been many times in India.
our planning is Amritsar - Bhatinda - Kapurthala - Jalandhar or Patiala - Anadpur Sahib - Chandigarh.
We suppose the best is to rent a car with driver for all itinerary, starting in Amritsar.
Does anyone know this area? because we couldn't find much information in the classic guides.
I will appreciate a lot if some know a reliable agency in Amritsar to make the planning.
Another idea is going to Manali, but the trip is too long
Thanks in advance
Leaning towards renting an unlimited kms car from Amritsar to drive around Punjab and Rajastan for about 3 weeks. Is this a best approach ? Willing to go in high summer - June to minimize crowds and traffic.

Is it safe and advisable for a foreigner (U.S.) to walk in the countryside around towns and villages or between towns and villages? I enjoy walks but do not want to run risk of trespassing or any trouble. I have been through Punjab to Amritsar before but would like to stop off the train in towns and see the countryside.
Could someone please let me know of a good coach company operating between Delhi and Jalhandar, Punjab. I'm arriving at 8.40am on the train from Bombay and have no idea of the location of the bus stands as this will be my first time in Delhi.

Does anyone know if the train links to Pakistan are open now from India. Is this worth taking or is it actually better to walk across the frontier - anyone done it recently? Thanks, Dave
Dear friends, As I am going, july 13st, in the north of India, I want to know the customs I have to respect with people in HP, Haryan and Punjab (suject to avoid in a talk, how to behave if you are inviting at home...). Sometimes, you don't know and you offend people you want to be friend with... Thank you
Namaste, I will come and visit Haryana this summer. The guide books, either in english, either in french tell very little about Punjab. Impossible to find where in which town it is possible to sleep for less than 250 rps a night. I am 52 years old and used to sleep in very simple conditions "Bharat me". Would be kind enough to send me adresses ? Danewad Jacques
