sandy bottom beaches?  (1 Answer)

got 2 kids. one like to snorkel and the other likes to just jump up and down in some surf. most beaches I have read about look very good for snorkeling. calm, somewhat rocky. but I need to have a few "go to" beaches for the little guy. I am not expecting big waves, but are there some beaches that have a little more surf and have sandy bottom? thanks.

Taxi Bus 2 Cane Bay?

I just got a job at Eat@Canebay, I live near Golden Rock Shopping Center, and I don't have a vehicle yet. Do any of the $2.50 Taxi Busses run down to, or near Cane Bay or should I plan on getting as close as possible and walking the rest of the way?

Can Someone Explain These Cab Fairs To Me?  (5 Answers)

I read that they charge per person, but here it says the price is for 1 or 2 people. I don't understand that. Are the prices listed here how much it costs for 1 person, or 2? Or is it the same?
And how much do they charge for waiting?

Is St Croix really safe?

I keep reading articles that St Croix is unsafe. I just booked a trip to St. Croix in April staying at the Mount Victory Lodge. Are the beaches safe? Can I hike safely? I don't need to go out at night just want to feel safe during day excursions.... HELP

Is St. Croix Safe?  (5 Answers)

Is St. Croix safe to visit? Other than the common sense precautions? I've read that St Thomas has become more dangerous recently, so I'm looking for an alternative island. Also is there a lot to see and do there? How are the beaches? The online pics don't seem as pretty as the other USVI. Thanks!

Hotel recommendations  (7 Answers)

I thought I would book the hotel where someone I know stayed, but she said she didn't like it and wouldn't stay there again. Also I see on the internet that the hotel (Chenay Bay Beach Resort) is being sold the week I was going to stay there. I thought I was booking with the hotel direct, but I was not - I was booking with something called HotelPlus Destination Portal and they charged me 20% of the booking to cancel it even though I canceled it within 24 hours.

Now I need to book another hotel. I would like it to be somewhere in the $125-$175/night range, in or near Christensted, with free on-site parking and free internet. And also I need there NOT to be a lot of stairs as I will be using a scooter. I have reserved a car. What we intend to do is visit the fort (I can walk some) and snorkel (which I can do) and go out to dinner in various places.

I looked at King Christian Hotel, but that doesn't have parking and the reviews are terrible. I've looked at Holger Danske Hotel, Hibiscus Beach Resort. Would either of them be OK or is there another one I should consider?

Customized tour  (2 Answers)

We will be in St Croix one day only, during a cruise. Four of us lived on St Croix for a while, long ago, as children. We'd like to see the places offered on a standard 4 hr tour, but would like to add a few stops to drive by the locations of our grandparents house and a couple of other places we remember. Do you know which tour companies would work with us, or would the taxi/tour drivers who wait near the pier for people to come off the boat be knowledgeable and trustworthy?

Few Questions about St. Croix  (1 Answer)

I have a few random questions. I am heading to St. Croix in Early February.

1. Is there any decent surfing that time of year?

2. I was planning on renting a car, but I thought it might be more fun to rent a scooter or something along those lines. Any suggestions on the car rental situation?

3. I am staying with a friend of mine...but I would much prefer to build some sort of a hut on the beach and build fires at night. Is this something people typically do?

Good snorkeling beach in St. Croix  (2 Answers)

I 'll be spending only a day in St. Croix and don't want to go to Buck Island but do want to swim and snorkel. I've read about a day pass to the beach at the Sand Castle (supposedly there is decent walk-in snorkeling). Also, apparently there's a snorkel tour that originates there with a40 westend dive trip to a couple of reefs. Anyone know about the Sand Castle day pass or westend diving with St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Fishing information from shore, any help much appreciated.

My wife and I wil be visiting the BEAUTIFUL island of ST CROIX in April. I am wondering if anyone has any "SHORE" fishing info that would help me. Such as type of fish, bait, spots to fish. We are staying at The Palms at Pelican Cove near Christiansted and will be renting a car. I already know I donot need a licence as I will be just catching and releasing the fish. Thanks so much for your help, Fishinguy.

Harbor Night?  (1 Answer)

Can anyone tell me what Harbor Nights in Frederiksted are like? If there is a Harbor Night, does that mean there is a cruise ship there?
We went to St. Croix several years ago. We attended what I think was a Harbor Night, but most of it was cancelled due to rain. There was, though, a terrific youth group playing African type drums with girls dancing in front. I'd like to try to see them again. We'll be in St. Croix from March 12-26.
Thanks.

Should I rent a car or bike in St. Croix?  (1 Answer)

I'll be in St. Croix (staying at the Hibiscus Hotel) which is 3 miles from Christiansted, for a week in early Jan '05. I'm not sure if this hotel is walkable distance to anything -- restaurants, grocery stores, etc. I'll definitely want to go in once or twice to Chistiansted, and maybe look around the island. I'm wondering whether to rent a car for a few days, or maybe a bicycle, or would a taxi be best?? I love riding a bike, but I'm not an adventure/mountain biker. Being able to ride a bike into the city sounds like fun, but I'm unsure of the terrain, safety, things like that. Has anyone rented a bike to get around while in St. Croix? Is a rental car a good idea? Any advice? (Guess I should tell you that I'm a woman and will be traveling with my 24 year old daughter.)

accomodations in St. Croix  (1 Answer)

I'm considering staying at either Colony Cove or Sugar Beach condos for a week in August 2004. I would like feedback from those who have recently stayed at either place, as I have heard both positive and negative comments.

hotel on the cay  (1 Answer)

Going to St.Croix this March (2004) and already have reservations at Hotel on the Cay, so hopefully any feedback will be positive. Anybody stay there recently? And this will be our first time in St.Croix, any advice?
