I'm going to south africa at the end of december and i'm also visiting the winelands.
Here in Belgium driving by bike is a big thing.
So i saw online that you can rent bikes in Stellenbosch.
Now i wondered if it's safe to drive in the winelands. Like from Stellenbosch to Franschoek.
Would anybody recommand it?
We are at the very early stages of planning our Southern Africa extravaganza and while it was pretty straight forward deciding which game reserves to head for I'm having a hard time figuring out which would be the best beach destination. We're not looking for anything too touristy just a great beach, nice food and maybe something to do in the evening. So far I am looking at Durban, Porto Ouro and Inhambane. I kind of put Durban at the bottom of the list as we'll be back to SA at some point in our lives and Durban is easy to access. Right now I'm favoring Porto Ouro - but Inhambane looks very interesting and we'd be able to drive there from Kruger.
I'm planning a 35 days trip to South Africa with Thai passport. As such normally 30 days are Visa exempt. However, after one week of my stay in SA I will travel from Kruger NP to Durban and on the way send a few days in Swaziland which apparently is another country. Therefore I would expect to get a new 30 days days Visa exempt time and hence would have no problems to do my trip as scheduled. (7 days Southafrica - 2 days Swaziland - 26 days South Africa.
Does anyone know whether this is correct? Many thanks for your info.
My friend and I are going to travel to South Africa in two weeks, and I've just heard that there are huge delays and long queues at the passport control counters. We are supposed to both land and depart from Cape Town Apt.
Has anyone flown there over the last two couple of days and know what the border process entails and how long it takes?
Thank you !

Is it safe to self drive between Pretoria and Nelspruit at late evening or night?
Is it safe to self drive between Pretoria and Nelspruit at late evening or night?
I was going to study abroad in South Africa in summer but there was a change of plan and I couldn't go anymore. However, I have to pay 50% of fee if I want to cancel the program. The only way to not pay the penalty is if my visa was denied. I am a Taiwanese citizen living in the U.S, and I was just wondering what can I say to the south africa consulate located in the U.S to reject my visa? Thanks
Our family is planning a 10 day trip to Cape Town in December. We're planning to spend 3 nights around the Waterfront and then move outside of the city center to either Hout Bay or Scarborough. I understand from my research that Hout Bay has much more to do, however Scarborough looks amazing and I think it would be a good place to relax, but also plan day trips to the Winelands, Cape Point, Simon's Town/Boulder Beach and surrounding areas. Has anyone stayed in Hout Bay or Scarborough?
How safe is it to drive? I love the idea of exploring, however would we be better staying somewhere more central in the city? We want to explore this beautiful area but can't help but be somewhat cautious when you read on potential dangers/risks.
Considering South Africa for next April. We'll have about 15 days (12 excluding international flights). Highest priority is wildlife. I'm thinking Cape Town, Oudtshoorn, and Kruger. I don't want to cram too much in. How long is the drive from Cape to Oudtshoorn? And from Oudtshoorn to Kruger? Once we leave Kruger do we have to drive back to Cape Town or should we take a flight out of Johannesburg? Any hassle renting a car in one city and returning in another? Is it best to have a car in Cape Town or not? What is the most convenient area of Cape Town in which to stay?
Since I'm just starting to research, any help/suggestions are really appreciated!
Has anyone stayed at the Zulu Nyala game lodge? Any feedback is appreciated.
I am planning to travel alone to Capetown (backpacking). What are your advises? Thanks
What is the best plan for visiting the battlefields from the Zulu and possibly the Boer wars. We are flying in to Johannesburg and can either drive from there or fly to Durban and fly from there. We go on to Cape Town afterwards.
How many days (a week enough? for the area. I plan to hire a car and pick up a guide nearer where we are staying. All advice welcome.
We'll be going to South Africa coming June.
I have looked for the regulations on child seats in the rental cars, but I don't seen to find any clear info on it.
Mostly I can only find that up until 2 years old the child has to be in a seat. As I can't imagine rules being that 'loose' I was wondering what to do ... Our boys will be 8 and 10 by then ...
Thanks already for the info!
Can anybody please tell me if amendments are possible on flight tickets booked via BudgetAir?
We are visiting family in Feb/March and I would like to buy a ticket for 20/20 SA v Australia as a surprise for my hubby. I see there is Viagogo SA but I know from the UK site that they charge way over ticket price, is there anywhere else I can purchase tickets from? Also it would have to be just the two of us with hire car, would it be safe to travel from JoBurg to Three Rivers after the match finishes, which will be approx. 1930 hours. I would appreciate any help on this. We have travelled by hire car several times in SA but try and avoid dusk to dark driving.
Thanks in advance.
My wife and I are travelling to South Africa via Gaborone.
We were wondering if anyone has been to South Africa recently and can tell us how the new biometric regulations affect the border crossings. We don't want to get stuck waiting on long lines.
Thanks in advance!

We are trying to plan a trip to SA from the US with our 5.5 yr old son for my 40th birthday. I (and he) really want to do several game drives. Are we not going to be able to since he is less than 6? Any recommended hotels/reserves where we can see the most?
Also, I had heard that we didn't need yellow fever vaccinations for SA, is this true? What about malaria? We lived in India for almost a decade, so are used to being cautious with wearing long sleeves, etc
Any advice on where to go in SA would be greatly appreciated. Right now we are mostly looking at Capetown and a safari somewhere.
Hi I am planning on arriving in Cape Town the night of 11/23 and leaving early 11/27. I am traveling on my own and I would like to make the best use of my time. I am staying at the Doubletree by Hilton in Woodstock and will not have a car. I am going to Hazyview - near Kruger for a week from Cape Town so would probably not take any safaris here. Any recommendations would be welcome, any tour company info etc. Thank you
