I am keen to go to Jostedalsbreen Glacier, or another glacier if there is a better option in the same region of Norway.
On Jostedalsbreen Glacier it seems there are a few choices of places to go to, such as Briksdalsbreen and Nigardsbreen, and there are also different options such as just look or do a guided walk.
I found a bus which goes from Stryn, Loen and Olden to the Briksdalsbreen Glacier, so I can do a day trip this way.
This means I can get to the bottom of a glacier, and I have 2 1/2 hours to walk around, and it is a very reasonable price.
But what are my other options?
Are there any other accessible glaciers in the region which I should consider?
How much would a guided walk cost, where would I have to go to do the walk, and who offers these walks?
I won't have a car, so I am limited by where buses or tours go to.
Any guidance on this would be very much appreciated.
We've planned a trip for the middle 3 weeks of June 2016 that will include some driving, mostly from Bergen to Odda/Tyssedal (Trolltunga visit) around the 3rd week, but also surface (bus/train) from Gudvangen to Bergen the preceding week. Just checking whether there's any road / tunnel closures that we need to plan around. If there's one or more web resources to track this information that would be great too.
i will travel to Sogn next week,i will arrival at Ytre Oppedal(near E39),but my hotel is near Ytre Oppedal(near E39),how can i go to my hotel without a car? is there any public transpotation?
Hi. Four of us, with 4 pieces of luggage, will be in Balestrand in July. We'll need to get to the Sogndal airport to fly to Oslo. So far the choices seem to be: 2 buses, taxi (but based on a phone conversation this morning, they don't all speak English there, so hard to say if the luggage will fit), or rental car (US150 extra to drop it off at the Airport.)
Any suggestions/advice appreciate. Thanks.
I haven\ t found any hostel accommodation in the area of Flam, so I was wondering if it\s possible to sleep at Myrdal station, or if it closes down for the night.
Thank you very much
I'll travel for 2 weeks to norway and I'm thrilled.
I'm just having troubles in finding a cheap accommodation in the Aurlandsfjord...
I'd like to go exploring Flam, Gidvangen, Aurland.
Any advice will be precious
thank you so much
did you need to make reservations to put yor car on a ferry on your trip in the fjords?
Greetings to all. In 2001 I visited Sogndal on the way to Balestrand and spent several hours walking around town. I noticed a statue or monument ( I cannot remember exactly which ) commemorating a famous Norwegian Rifle Marksman. I would like to learn more about this man. Can anyone tell me more about this, name picture etc. Thanks
we are arriving into haugesund airport and would like to know the easiest or prettiest way to reach balestrand from there!?!!?
also - do you think we need a car once we get to the area? thanks!
OR Are there sleep-aboard sailboats or smaller boats that we can stay on as we travel up the coastline into various fjords? We are backpacker types and sailors so we hope to find an "UNluxury" trip.
We will be going in May 2009. Thanks!!!!
Which is the better way to travel between Flam and Bergen - bus or train? I have read about the bus between Gudvangen and Voss which goes via Stalheim, takes the famous super-steep Old Stalheim Road, which is worth seeing. Would it be better to take the bus from Flam to Voss and then use the train to Bergen (this is the route that the Norway in a Nutshell trip takes?
We are planning to stay 6 days somewhere in inner Sogn to explore the countryside of Sogn fjord. I could not make a decision which is the better base-place, Balestrand-Sogndal area or Aurland-Flam.
Could anybody help me please?
I see a lot of great thoughts on the Sogn og Fjordane. My wife and I plan on spending three days in the area at the end of April 2006. I will have a rental car to drive from Bergen. I am thinking of staying in Sogndal and taking day trips. I want to take the most scenic loops available that time of year. Thinking of North around Geiranger one day, Balestrand west one day and Lustrafjord the last day. Too ambitious? Slow down and concentrate in an area more? Help! Advice. Looking for beautiful fjord views and quant towns.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts and or experiences including warnings of what to avoid.
Can anyone tell me if there are any kind of boat travelling trough Sogn og Fjordane in October?
I´ve made my research and there´s a lot of round trips cruises, safaris and so on in the summer but it seems that in October there´s nothing , so i understand that we cannot travel trough the fjords in that time of the year, is that really true ????
I pass the norway in a nutshell it´s too expensive....
