I'm going to the Philippines in January and I was wondering about surf conditions. I know it's going to rain and it should be quite windy too, but would it be possible to get good conditions in the morning for example, followed by crappy ones in the afternoon? Also, would it be better to go towards the beginning or the end of the month?
I am planning to visit Siargao next month and am looking for a good 5-day itinerary. I love adventure so it would be good to add in my itinerary any activities like: surfing, hiking, and etc. I always make sure that I don't spend too much on a travel thus I'm looking for a hotel to rent for 5 days with rate of 400 to 500 a day. I'll be traveling alone so I don't think that it should cost me much especially when I'll be using a standard room only. Any suggestion of a motorbike rental shop that I can book in advance would be appreciated too. I heard there are some in the island but I prefer that I have everything booked and set in advance.
Hello, can someone give me an honest answer about this island. Should we be concerned about our personal safety here as foreigners visiting or living on the island, with its proximity to Mindanao island and the much publicized militant groups kidnapping and murders of foreigners from nearby resorts? Thank you for your expert info. Corozon

This will be my first time to go to Siargao. I took a few lessons in Costa Rica but I'm still a very beginner surfer. I know that there's surfing competition as well Sep - Oct 2010. Can anybody tell me if the waves are ok for beginner surfers during this time? Also, if you can recommend place(s) to stay. I don't like staying at budget places and don't need to stay at the most expensive ones either.
Thanks for any tips!
