I have got this 7h in Shiphol on my way to Tokyo from Helsinki. Any suggestions ?
I have got a residence permit of Finland; so I guess I can pass though the customs even if the luggage is checked in all the way to Tokyo.
Some suggestions and information are summarized here:

We visited Amsterdam on a 7 hour layover last summer, plenty of time to go into the city and have a look around. We did a 1 hour canal cruise which you can get very close to Centraal Station and had a nice walk around, it's only about 15 minutes by train from the airport.
I wrote a few tips on how to visit on a layover on my Amsterdam page, here's a guide I found helpful
Do you use 2 different airlines or not?
The flight from Finland to Amsterdam is an internal EU-flight within the Schengen zone.
Make sure you have the Schiphol gate pass and your passport on you when you return to Schiphol for the second leg of your flight. You will go through passport check and security.
Enjoy Amsterdam (canal boat tour?).
Great tips ! Thanks everybody.
